Do You Currently Pay More for Car Insurance Because of an Accident or Ticket?

You!

Most of us do our best to follow the rules when we're on the road, but life happens. Maybe you were running late to a meeting, risked going a few miles per hour over the speed limit, and got caught; maybe you didn't realize there was a "No Right on Red" sign and went for it, even though you know there was a police car right behind you. Even talking on your phone can get you in trouble in most states.

Whatever your experience with getting (or avoiding) traffic tickets, we want to hear about it. If you have a minute or two, take our 8-question poll, and feel free to explain yourself in the comments section! It's rarely a simple story.

I pay more for car insurance because I am a high-risk demographic.

Not even health or life? What would happen if you got hurt, or worse, died?

No, the few speeding tickets I have gotten have always put me on the staight and narrow for a few years. I haven't had a ticket for 8 years now so my insurance premiums are quite low.

Minor fender bender three (3) years ago and my rate almost doubled, with GEICO. I am 61 years old with NO tickets and only this one accident.

Nope fairly clean record even tickets that I have had were long enough ago they are not on record. Or were far enough apart I could take a traffic class and get expunged immediately.

I pay 350 for my insurance on my older car because I am a single white male thats under 30.

only been in 2 accidents, neither was my fault. One was during construction on a highway with no shoulder and a semi just merged me into the wall. The second I was completely stopped, waiting for a train, my car was actually turn off at the time, because freights can take forever, and a car rear ended me so hard I was right up against the crossing gates.

I get a good driver's discount. Thankfully they only look back 3 years. I was not a good driver in my early 20s.

Knock on wood, but I haven't gotten a ticket or gotten into an accident, yet. Watch, I'm going to hit someone or get pulled over the next time I drive now and my insurance will go up.....

I challenged my photo ticket in court and won. I thought the timing of the light was rigged to catch or trap people into running the red. There is a lot of online information which questions the basic premise of photo red light tickets as enhancing public safety; most studies support proper timing of lights as the safest way to go. In fact, if yellow light time too short and a photo red light installed, then, rear end collisions increase. Some have raised the question that these photo tickets primary point is to generate revenue.

So, I fought it; reasearched my state law and filed motions with the court and the police department. The video tape was not used as evidence and the Judge threw out my case. I would encourage all who receive these tickets to have your day in court. Especially if the time you entered into the intersection was less than about 1 second after the light turned red.

No, I got in a fender bender--but it wasn't my fault and my insurance is the same after running a red light.
