I am usually, it depends how they're a expressing it. And I know a lot of people on here are NOT so don't lie. I've been called an immoral Atheist. Attention-whore Satanist, been accused of sacrificing blonde virgins, eating babies, etc etc. So if you know you're a jerk towards others beliefs. Please don't deny it. 8) And that includes the Atheists who attack Christians and vice versa. The ones who mock Islam. The ones who insult Scientology. The ones who think Pagans are a part of Hells Angels and think they're criminals.

I don't want people mocking my religion, my culture - why would I do so to someone else? I could, on the face of it ALL religion sounds nonsensical, but your views on your creation are extremely personal. When someone mocks or denigrates your religion you take it personally and feel as if they are denigrating you. Religion brings comfort to billions. If you don't agree, if religion is not part of your life - don't attack others for whom it is important. Nothing that brings peace to the human soul should be downplayed or made fun of.

Most definitely, intolerance is spawned from ignorance or a prejudice that has been assembled in someones mind usually through influence.

I may not agree or understand people's beliefs, but I will respect their decision to believe as I would hope people respect my own beliefs.

If somebody doesn't respect me or my beliefs it really doesn't matter. I will stay true to myself and my beliefs.

allow me to use one example that I am intolerant of ...

the muslums bury a woman up to her waist , and a bunch of her friends and neighbors come down and pick up bricks and stone her to death..

I guess that is my best example...

This is a custom practiced by people in a certain area of the world, no matter their particular religion It is NOT a tenet of the Muslim faith. Do a little research and learn before you begin to hate.

hmmm,, jumping the hate thing a little quickly are you ???

I do not hate the muslums for killing their women, even if it is stoning them to death, that is how they live, that is their culture, and does not effect me personaly,

the question was about tolerence , and I voiced my lack of tolerence for stoning women to death, if that qualifies me to be a hateful person in your world, well, I accept that ,

hmm, is that showing tollerence on my part for your intollerence ?????

The stoning is not particular to Muslims in those regions...that's where you are wrong. It's a regional, cultural action....not a religious one. I hate stoning as much as the next normal American, but I can see the difference between cultural ignorance and religious practice. You singled out a particular religious group for a practice that is not part of their faith..and yes, I am intolerant of intolerance, and of intentional ignorance.

hmm,, am I mistaken on the stoning to death of women ?

I read it in the local paper , a liberal bias paper to boot, and they made a point to state a muslum woman stoned to death by her neighbor's for sexing up some muslum guy in the city she lived in..

how come they do not stone the guy to death also ?

I believe anyone has the right to believe anything they want. But I also have the right to know they believe in myth and legend and not facts or reality. Beliefs are a personal matter and should not be involved in government or public schools. If you want you child to be educated in myths then send them to a private school funded by your fellow believers. Our government was started as a secular one and must remain so.

I think there may be a bit of hypocrisy going on here....
I tolerate a s much as I can of others; their presence on public transportation, their voices, their dominance of the sidewalks... beliefs can be grating because frequently there are transparent elements to them that are head-slappingly stupid.
I try. And that's the best I can do. I try.

Yes. I believe everyone has a right to believe what they choose to believe. Of course, I don't really think anyone chooses what they believe. I think they are usually indoctrinated into that belief. It's very traumatic to break away from what one has been taught to believe. However, there have been people who have done just that. I'm one of them. :)

For those who think it only works when it is applied to them (meaning they don't practice allowing others free speech-- & call someone a sexist/bigot/racist just because someone doesn't agree with them and it's for reasons not relating to race/gender/etc.), it's hard understand or relate to them since they are just as bad. To me, they are more LIKE those they complain about, than different.

With the exception of the few who promote violence, being tolerant of others beliefs is everything that I've been fighting for on SH these past few years! It doesn't matter what they believe or if they choose not to. A person can believe that they will reach nirvana by contemplating their navel. No matter. They have every right to believe as they choose to without being ridiculed by others. If everyone practiced tolerance this world would be a much more safer place.

People have the right to believe what they want but people they don't inherently have the right to do so without being ridiculed.

I think beliefs should be accorded respect to a certain extent. However, I think it promotes societal ignorance if we give demonstrably untrue faith-based assertions equal weight to hard-won human knowledge.

Believe there is a God? Fine, go for it.

Wyzard, being tolerant of other's beliefs doesn't mean you have to agree with their beliefs. It means you respect them as people and you can agree to disagree.
Maybe you'd like to join many people here on the question "Would love you to Join me in posting a song of Peace." The question is in the living section or on my page. There are many beautiful songs there. You could add a beautiful song according to your personal beliefs.
