Do you compare yourself to other people?

You!

I do it pretty much all day. It's stupid, but I just can't seem to ever be good enough. Like, I'm just average in every way. Average in looks, average in brains, average in sports. I just hate not being able to be the best in something that is just uniquely MINE. It's so frustrating.

that is the worst mistake you could ever make. it could ruin the rest of your life perspectivewise. people suck, but theres only one you!!! why be like other people when you know yourself better than anyone else? thats why youre here.

    Bodybuilders have to.

    Nothing wrong with it.

I think its essential; its the only way to gauge your potential and measure your progress. That go's for any aspect of humanity.

Very, very few (highly enlightened) people are able to avoid the inevitability of making comparisons. It's human nature, but it needn't suck us into negativity. Who's the best at everything? Creating a work of art of your life IS uniquely yours.

But I do compete with others. I try to hang out with people who have better skills, because it brings me up.

The most miserable I have ever been is when, as a young man, I would compare myself to other guys. And when we engage such negative behavior, we always compare our weaknesses to another's strength - not realizing that the guy we're jealous of is doing likewise with us.
It's a prescription for perpetual unhappiness.

In some ways comparing oneself to others encourages us to better outselves. Other people give us clues as to how to refine ourselves, better ourselves. But taking it to the level of self-criticism is counter-productive. You can admire someone and take cues from them, but they probably went through a refinement process too at some stage. Nobody is born knowing it all. Like most things: moderation and healthy observance is key.

I do on somethings such as "patience" and being human but mostly trying to better the inner me not so much the outter at all. I have learned many skills and still lack many more but I am fine being "average" since appearance fades but the heart stays ;-)

Nope. There's only one me, so I'd rather work on being happy and content with myself and what kind of life I've created for myself.
