Supper originally, in the Middle Ages, referred to the lighter meal following dinner, where until the 18th century dinner was invariably eaten as the Lunch meal.
So there we have it, originally in the middle ages there was the breakfast meal in the mourning.
Then 'Dinner' as the lunch meal. The biggest meal of the day.
Then 'Supper' as the end of day lighter meal.
Maybe those middle ages people had it best, because they ate the largest meal at lunch, and a light meal at the end of the day.
Today most of us eat our largest meal at the end of the day so when we go to bed we turn all that food into stored body fat, and we as a society today are much larger, more overweight than our middle ages ancestors.
Maybe we should go back to those days of eating less before we go to bed, and eating more when we still have time to work off the fat before we retire to bed.
That's called a "siesta" , the midday meal, then a short nap is taken. Usually about 2-3 hours, is a common tradition in some countries like Spain, particularly those countries where the weather is warm.
We should have that here in the United States, but I doubt business would approve.
However I do practice the siesta tradition every day, as I own my own business, lol
I make enough to support myself, but not enough to hire someone, sorry!
I have a website I work from, get orders from it, then do the work, and get paid, all from my home, never have to drive anywhere, well excep to the store for groceries, but basically I order everything online, clothes, supplies, everything except basic foods. But I do order those Dole golden pineapples from Hawaii once in a while because they are so much better tasting than the ones at the grocery store, and only $45 bucks for two huge pineapples sent right to my front door in two days, yummm.
Is the best way to live far as I'm concerned.
Take care my friend.
The evening meal is called "dinner" in the Bay Area where I'm from, but I used to spend summers at my grandparents ranch near Ten Sleep Wyoming, and it was "supper" there. Weirdly, it was the midday meal that was called "dinner". I think they still used "lunch", but only when "lunch" was a small meal, which on the ranch was almost never the case.
Used to be at least. Walk into any restaurant and ask for the "supper special" ... after they give you a strange look, they'll hand you a dinner menu and charge you twice as much. Also, I've never had an employer give me a "supper break."
That is true, I don't eat out much, though. When I do, it's usually this little homestyle place (not a chain) that all the older folks go to. I figured if that many older folk were there, it was probably good food, good service and decent prices...I was right. They don't care what you call it. lol

Sounds logical to me!
