Young Earth creationism (YEC) is the religious belief that the Universe, Earth, and all life on Earth were created by direct acts of the Abrahamic God during a relatively short period, sometime between 5,700 and 10,000 years ago. Its primary adherents are those Christians and Jews who believe that God created the Earth in six 24-hour days, using a literal interpretation of the Genesis creation narrative as a basis.

I'm a Phsysics (13.73 Bya) but allowed the 6k year old one a slight possibility of being possible (on a par with the Flat Earth Society).

With my version of Occam's Ramp (dynamic version of Razor), it would take many magnitudes of energy our present knowledge of Astrophysics knows what the Universe contains to have directly assemble each atom into molecules rather than allowing it proceed with the Laws of Physics to guide inorganic material into suitable environments for Life to flourish at a rate a million or so times slower. Barring mutations.

Contrary to what some think, dinosaurs and man did not co-exist (except for the Flintstones).

    Now for some humor:

Trilobites, Meganeura, Megoladons, Giganotosaurus, and Cromagnum man disprove the theory. If there is a god(s), and it created the world, it did so 4 billion years ago.

The "Days" in the First Chapter of Genesis were likely 1,000 years long, but refer to the Spiritual Creation, not the Physical. The Second Chapter of Genesis tells of the Physical Creation, but gives no specific timetable.

That is not true, they have found human remain that are thousands of years old.

"Israeli archaeologists have discovered human remains dating from 400,000 years ago, challenging conventional wisdom that Homo sapiens originated in Africa, the leader of excavations in Israel said on Tuesday.

Avi Gopher, of Tel Aviv University's Institute of Archaeology, said testing of stalagmites, stalactites and other material found in a cave east of Tel Aviv indicates that eight teeth uncovered there could be the earliest traces so far of our species.

"Our cave was used for a period of about 250,000 years -- from about 400,000 years ago to about 200,000 years ago," he told AFP."

You mean those creationists who have build that museum down in the southern USA. They are the laughing stock of the entire scientific community because they are not using science at all, but pseudo science and have not proven anything at all.

They have been proven to actually lie and used false information in giving speeches to ordinary people who want to confirm their religious beliefs. That is fraud and should be enough to have their credentials revoked.

That is exactly the same as the young earth advocates. We have trees that are older than 6,000 years old. Yet there are still some idiots who want the rest of us to believe that the earth was only created about 6,000 years ago.

One man here last week, told me human have only been dying for 6,000 years. Yet we have human remains that date back over 100,000 years. These people are delusional.

I was not referring to any particular set of Bible-believing scientists. You can't really believe that they are only in one place?

Evolutionary scientists have been shown to be liars as well.

That is a lie. Where is this tree(s) that is older than 6,000 years old?

I said that men have only been dying for 6,000 years. I disagree with the dating results because of some unverifiable assumptions they are based upon.

The oldest are 400,000 years old. "It is accepted at the moment that the earliest Homo sapiens that we know is in east Africa and is 200,000 years old, or a little less. We don't know of anywhere else where anyone claims to have an earlier Homo sapiens."

Piltdown man was not universally accepted at all. It was also not done by any well known scientist either.

The tree is NOT dead wood either It is growing. There are also many trees of the same age is California. So do some research if you have the intellectual ability to actually read. It seems you are much easier seduced by fiction rather than actual science.

Go take a vacation to that creationist center in the south, they could use another fool to do tours. You will fit right in.

Your bigoted attitude will never be satisfied, yet your total acceptance of a fictional god and Jesus who has never been proven to even have been born is high on your list of absolute certainties. That is a wild sense of imagination you have developed. Keep running with that.

Are there still any YECs, Young Earth Creationists, left in the wild? Please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought this species went extinct shortly after Sputnik in 1957. The only specimens left are in institutions like "Answers in Genesis," "The Creation Science Institute," and various mental hospitals.

    - - - -

    "[ . . . ] primary adherents are those Christians and Jews [ . . . ]"

    Conservative Muslims are also YECs.
Some Hindus are Creationists, but their time span is longer.

witty and awesome comment. i hope yecs become an endangered species like geocentrists.
    fun facts for all:
As of 2012, of the U.S. adult population:
    73% identify as Christian (= 48% Protestant 22% Catholic 2% Mormon 1% Orthodox)
    46% deny human evolution
30% interpret the Bible literally (≈ 40% of Christian Americans)
    <20% believe in geocentrism
    19.6% lack a religion

Yes shockingly this is a widely held belief! According to wikipedia between 40% and 50% of adults in the United States say they share the beliefs of young Earth creationism, depending on the poll. The percentage of believers decreases as the level of education increases only 22% of respondents with postgraduate degrees believed compared with 47% of those with a high school education or less.
