Censorship should be restricted to demonstrable causes of harm... such as porn for pedophiles.

Ah a limey.... Well pardon me.

Continue regulating the music you import from us however you see fit, just keep the checks coming.

Ha, we have great quality music homegrown thanks, so little need of yours. The checks (cheques) certainly won't be coming from me. The term 'limey', do you even know what it means ??

If by music you mean rap.

Well that's not music it's more like ranting.

Banning music would be a bad thing, but controling what can be said in these rants must surely be bound by decency, and I would have thought that glorifying violence is wrong however it is put over.

Listening to music glorifying violence is one thing

Acting on that violence is totally different.

Like rap? Yes, but the whole "freedom of speech" thing...no one can touch the Constitution, so that music will never be banned, unfortunately.

Why is it unfortunate that we're not lining up to sacrifice the very 1st civil liberty our founding father's thought was important enough to specifically point out?

I meant unfortunately rap music won't be banned and other music that promotes violence against women won't be banned.

What if someone decides they don't like what you're saying, then unfortunately decides to shut you up?

Wouldn't you want some sort of bill with rights outlined to point to when you're being unduly oppressed?

It's not the speech we love that needs protection. We won't act against something we love. It's the speech we hate that needs protection.

The speech we hate that needs protection?
How does that make sense? And for your first question, no one's going to shut me up so I can't imagine that scenario.

It makes sense, because you can't go around shutting people up who disagree wtih you..

That's pretty much how we ended up with Hitler, Stalin, and (enter random mad man who seized control of a country and killed everyone who disagreed with him here)

I get it, you're young, sheltered, and stupid. Here's some advice, go to college, take as many history classes as possible, and do pay attention.

Freedom of speech was meant, as people like Penn & Teller, George Carlin, and countless others have stated, to protect even the most heinous and vile, the most offensive speech. For the government to do what free market, and society should, is more capable of do on their own is to put more control over us - which flies in the face of both freedom, and the intentions of our own founding fathers.

i hate the crap. last time i checked verbal abuse was kind of against the law, but apparently if you verbally belittle and threaten every woman it's ok. kind of like the stalin quote "1 death is a tragedy and 1 million, a statistic" get rid of porno too, same concept.

I'm sorry, but i do take that mentality of "i'm self entitled enough to advocate taking other's civil liberties away because i have a distaste of a particular music genre" pretty seriously.

If you vote, you undoubtedly vote with that mentality, and i take every chance i can to mock people like that. Nothing personal... well actually it is.

aren't you an intellectual hero. i guess i don't share the same sentiment that a corroded and futile government's 200 year old laws are greater than decency and common sense. and, in our current judicial system such a vote could be argued as both progressive and american. for example, it's unlawful for me to emotionally abuse you or anyone else as i can be charged for a crime. but, if i do it to countless people i'm entitled to a large cash reward. and while you may argue that people have a choice to listen to what they want, isn't there a limit? a woman may choose an emotionally abusive husband but at some point intervention is both lawful and constitution. also, isn't there already a pre-established concept that self destruction is not protected by the constitution? dr Kevorkian? how in any way does the constitution dictate the difference between these things? should it not be for the current generation to decide as the lyrics in some of today's rap songs, had they been around during the founding of our country, would without any doubt be outlawed? i personally have no problem with you, but i also enjoy to mock when the occasion so easily presents itself as it has in this current conversation.

I can't imagine men or women enjoying violence against them. Unless they are victims of abuse or neglect and that is normal to them. And truth is that violence is never enjoyable in any form Some people take it because they do not feel good about themselves. Just my opinion.

Alcoholic men were beating their families for centuries without the aid of music. The 1950s that everyone clamors for was one of the worst eras of domestic abuse.
