bags the Indigenous Guru 2012/05/21 00:59:30No, Why?+3Much as it salves our bloodlust for the individual who has committed horrendous crimes, it is NOT a deterrent. Too many open and shut cases have been reopened and reversed since the advances made in the laboratory.....i.e. DNA, etc. The life of an innocent man is worth far more than gold, and innocent men have been convicted/executed or the lack of this evidence. It also costs us far more to go through all the appeals and legal rigamarole to finally execute them than to just warehouse them and be done with it.

No?
Then there is no reason to stockpile dangerous CONVICTED FELONS that are a menace as long as they live.

Big difference.
1. There is no way to be 100% certain of guilt, so it becomes inevitable that innocent people get executed.
2. No one has the right to take another's life, no matter the motive, reason, or "justification". Majority vote, royal decree or even divine fiat does not give anyone, not even God itself, the right to do it.
3. It lowers the society that practices the Death Penalty to the same moral level as any murderer. The only difference is numbers and motive.
