I believe in the Goddess. She is everywhere, in everything and everyone. I also believe in her God consort. I believe in all of the Gods and Goddesses, and can worship who I want. My Goddess is not jealous, because all Gods and Goddesses are part of her. Our minds are just too small to take the concept of her in all at once.

Prove that it's a fairy tale.

(I just love how you atheists always demand proof and evidence from believers. But then you assert anything you want, without any proof or evidence as backup.)

That's not how proof works. You don't prove something doesn't exist, you prove that something does exist. The philosophic burden of proof lies upon the person making scientifically unfalsifiable claims rather than shifting the burden of proof to others (Russell's teapot).

Rufus asserted a statement of fact. Statement of facts should be backed up with proof or evidence.

I suppose we could say that Rufus was just stating his opinion. In which case, proof and evidence wouldn't really apply. Just as it doesn't apply with belief in God.

By the way, a person's love for their children exists. But that doesn't mean they can scientifically prove it. Just because something doesn't fit into a "scientific proof" box doesn't necessarily mean it's not real.

Don't go around calling yourself a champion of rationality, Rufus.

Not if you're going to call someone a "hateful harpy" just because she challenges you to back up your assertions.

Keep it classy there, Mr. Logical and Rational Atheist.

    religious belief destroys the mind.

Right. And I know you atheists are really big on proof, rational thought, and empirical evidence.

So, let's see some. Let's see some empirical evidence that backs up your claim that religious belief destroys the mind.

Please link us to some peer-reviewed scientific research that supports your claim.

Or are you one of the many, many atheists who demand proof and evidence from believers -- but then permit yourselves to assert anything you want, with no evidence to support it?

If so, you've got plenty of company. Such atheists are legion.

the proof is in the many religious believers who inhabit mental institutions, hear voices, and act out in violence their beliefs and claims that some imaginary being wants them to kill, murder, and destroy in its name. and the ones who delight in telling others who do not follow their delusions that they will burn in hell, be judged etc by the same imaginary being. and they say it with so much delight its easy to imagine them rubbing their hands together like flies contemplating a meal.
religious belief is a mental illness.
  • KoAm irish 2012/08/24 15:47:46
    KoAm
Really? That sounds a little more like bigotry than proof.

I mean, there are lots of African Americans inhabiting correctional facilities -- according to your "logic," this means there's something wrong with the race in general. I don't happen to believe that, of course, but maybe I would if I applied your "logic."

Do you have any proof or evidence that mental institutions are dominated in population by devout religious adherents? Or do sweeping generalizations count as "proof and evidence" in the world of "logical and rational" atheism?

i see your reading and comprehension abilities remain deficient. where did i mention " correctional facilities?" it would seem that the bigotry lies in you since you assumed i said as much and used your deficiency to leap onto a topic that isn't even mentioned.

    >>>and claims that some imaginary being wants them to kill, murder, and destroy in its name>>>

Please. Just in the last 90 years or so, Officially Atheist Regimes have killed at least 100 million of their own people.

Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, the Kims of North Korea, and several other practitioners of State Sponsored Atheism have racked up the world record for bloodshed, oppression, and death.

And all of this atheism-fueled bloodshed isn't from centuries ago, like the Crusades or Inquisitions. It's all happened in just the last century, and much of it in our very own lifetimes.

And don't give me this crap about how all of this oppression and death had nothing to do with atheism. It had LOTS to do with it. You can't divorce a person's or a state's acts in life from their primary core beliefs.

If a person or state commits mass murder and is a "devout" atheist, the two are undeniably linked. As Dostoyevsky wrote, "When God is not, anything is permitted."
