Do you believe 16 year olds should have the right to vote and why?

It is amazing how teenagers know a lot more than they should, for example they have they're own veiws in society, they have opinions on governments etc. They are alowed to have sex, buy mobile phones, join the military, and work so why shouldn't they be aloud to vote?

I don't doubt that 16 year olds can make a reasoned decision about why they would choose one elected official or another. However, very few 16 year old have had to grapple with the kinds of issues that drives most political choices. I fear that 16 year olds would be swayed by grand promises or simple pandering to popular norms. Our country needs more people making reasoned choices about whom to elect, and fewer people making these kinds of emotional choices.

That is a right you gain when you become an adult after you complete at least a high school education.

Maturity is something that is definitely needed to make decisions about and 16 year olds have not even begun to finish that part of their development.

I can go through the questions AND answers JUST here on SodaHead, and SHOW you exactly why 16 year old kids should not. Here's one good example - NO, you are not "allowed" (spelled wrong BTW) to have sex - you just do so anyway. No, you cannot buy cell phones without your own (not Mommy or Daddies) credit card. No, you cannot join the military without Mom or Dad's OK, and no, you can't work - again - without adult approval.

Seems you DON'T know more than you should after all!!!

Yes you can have SEX, yes you can buy PHONES, yes you can join the MILLITARY, and yes you can WORK I live in the UK and your pretty much aloud to do all those things! so I have got my facts right you need to do some research before you insult me thank you very much!! BTW I no I spelled it wrong don't need you or anybody else to tell me so!

In N. America you can buy a cell phone, however, you are NOT allowed to sign any contract for that cell phone. To sign contracts you have to be of legal age. The same thing applies to joining the military and having a credit card.

In uk it is sort of the same however you don't need parental consent to join the millitary, you can have a bank account but not a credit card. Also the same applies to mobiles you can buy one but can't have a contract. however pay as you go is popular over the uk.

Cell phones are very expensive here and to get one that most of the young people like it could cost you around $300 up to $600. It is unlikely that a 16 year old has that kind of money.

I can understand what your saying But then again 16 year olds are allowed to work over here, most 16 year olds can afford "luxury things" because of there background however even young teenagers living in poverty have a mobile and can get jobs on minimum wage. A mobile phone over here cost on average between £60-£300.

Most kids that young here do not work at all. If they get the luxury items they are bought by their parents.

I think we should standardized the age of majority to 18. If we have to pick an age, I think its a good place to start.

At 16 you don't have the mental maturity to make a sound decision. It's bad enough that people are allowed to vote at 18. The part of your brain that makes important decisions doesn't fully develop until around age 25. I say no voting until 25.
PS: The reason democrats love to pander to the young is because they know you aren't ready yet and most of the youth vote Democrat because of their ignorance.

At 19 most kids would go for Marxist Propaganda thinking this is the best way to go. It always looks it too. Communist / Marxist Governments have been falling down with horrible results since the 1890s........ The damn thing doesn;t work.
So a 18 yearold voting has lots of problems determining truth. There are Teachers who never abandoned Marxism. They believe if you give it oine more try it will work this time.... These are the stupid believers in an impossibility.

Like spending your way to prosperity. A Democrat Nostrum that has bankrupt America and you wil be paying taxes for it the next 200years or so. Thank you Obama
