Do stressed out men prefer heavier women? Apparently so, according to a study reported by Time magazine. The study, published in the journal PLoS ONE, reports that "when men were placed in stressful situations, then asked to rate the attractiveness of women of varying body sizes, they tended to prefer beefier frames, compared with unstressed men whose tastes skewed thinner."
“This suggests that our body size preferences are not innate, but are flexible,” said study co-author Martin Tovée of Newcastle University in the U.K., in an email, noting that they may be influenced by our particular environment and resources.

Most men prefer leggy and lean women, Gisele Bündchen lookalikes, right? Not necessarily. In fact, the body type that a man finds attractive can change depending on his environment and circumstances, a new study finds: when under stress, for instance, men prefer heavier women.

I don't know about this blanket statement that stressed men go for heavier women than do relaxed men. I think it all boils down to chemistry and how one person makes another person feel. I think men choose from the best mutual interest that is available out of the pool of people they are exposed to, just like women, and regardless of orientation.
If a guy is stressed out, he wants to relax, have fun and wind down. I think it's easier to have fun and relax with the "girl next door" rather than a super-model. Maybe he'd be more interested in the heavier girl with a great sense of humor, rather than a chick with a killer body.
Personally, I think men like fun, open, and loving women.
I could be wrong.
