When I was 6 I got a red tail boa for a pet... she was the best show and tell thing ever... I love and respect snakes....

I just don't like them --- except a black snake which seem to keep the mice population in control and the poisonous snake away. (And I DID jump at that video!)

I like snakes.

I had a cousin who had two boas...Harvey and Wallbanger. They used to run loose in his house and my only complaint was that he should have put diapers on them. They were a bit stinky.

Oh...and Harvey flipped his mice tail first before eating them. It isn't nice to watch a mouse's face as it realizes it's just become dinner.

I used to keep snakes (garter snakes) in a "Habitrail" complex in my classroom, when I taught small children.

The one on the dog is a ball python, and the one sniffing the cat is a red tailed boa. I have one of each.

Kat, I must admit that, much as I like snakes, I did have a moment (or 12) when I ran into a rattler in the middle of a hiking trail. Especially as he had no intention of moving. I didn't want to hurt it but chucking rocks near it didn't do a thing. Finally, I took the top off a bottle of water and threw that.

I guess he didn't like getting wet.

It did give me a turn...or seven. Luckily, a plastic bottle landing near him and exploding water all over him did the trick.

But, I can still see him staring at me and rattling away. When I told my cousin (the guy with Harvey and Wallbanger) he said, "Oh...he wouldn't have bitten you." I told him that he wasn't there.

That snake was in a bad mood before he ever clapped eyes on me.
