Do Relationships Get Stale After Three Years?

Happy couples have long dreaded the infamous "seven-year itch." But experts say the doldrums are more likely to kick in about three years into a relationship.

A survey of 2,000 British adults in steady relationships found that stress levels peak around 36 months, when small irritations go from endearing to annoying, Reuters reports.

Money troubles -- and today's 24/7 working hours -- are also putting out the fire in the bedroom.

"Longer working hours combined with money worries are clearly taking their toll on modern relationships," pollster Judi James said.

But money isn't the No. 1 reason why couples aren't feeling the spark three years after it was first ignited. The survey found the top 10 passion-killers to be:

1. Weight gain/lack of exercise
2. Money issues
3. Working hours
4. Hygiene issues
5. In-Laws/extended family
6. Lack of romance (including sex)
7. Alcohol
8. Snoring and other bedtime habits
9. Same-old underwear/clothes
10. Bathroom habits (especially stray nail clippings)

What do you think? Is the three-year mark the kiss of death for a relationship?

Naturally your going to have good and bad days...who doesn't? It's all about laughter, compromising, understanding, and most of all surprises here and there! Never go to be angry and always say, "I love you" before you leave! Like many people have said...Spice up the relationship!

I was in a relationship for almost 5 years and it all went to hell in a hand basket at 3 years. I'm not sure why but it seems almost like your bored and now comfortable enough with one another to start fights for literally no reason at all. We used to fight about the tooth paste speckles left on the mirror after you brush your teeth.

They only get stale if their built on false premises. If you're superficial, you're lucky to make it 3 years. There is little in life that is more rewarding than making a marriage good, and keeping it going with one you love for decades.

All relationships go through stages, and there are precious few married couples that can tell you there was never a time when we thought about leaving. Unless there is addiction, adultery or abuse, it's generally better to stay put and keep working on it.

Noooooo! Keep in shape by banging the neighbor's wife. That will take care of the money drain since you'll save on hookers. You'll naturally want to "spend more time at home" and trim your working hours. You'll have to shower more so the wife does not detect Mrs. Jone's perfume. (Nothing stops in-laws/extended faamily) No time to booze it up at the bar and do both Mrs. Jones and your wife. Snoring? Who's sleeping? Got to regularly change your drawers to impress Mrs. Jones (just make sure you come home with them facing the right way). Bathroom habits?? If you are that nasty, your wife should have never married you in the first place. I notice Mrs. Jones didn't even make the top ten on the list.

Only if you get complacent and tend to take your mate for granted. A good relationship is only as good as you make it. If you truly love some one, you should show it to them,,,,,All of the time,,,,,
