It's always an excuse someone uses. When they realise they're losing an argument they go "But you're only 15. What would you know?"

The majority of the time when I try to hold a logical argument on this website, my opinion is instantly categorized as 'ignorant' or 'naive' as people consider my age (which happens to be significantly lower than everyone I usually type with - under 18). It's incredibly presumptuous to make judgement based upon age. Why do some people seem so inclined to think my age instantly makes my level of intelligence irrelevant?

which is why I made a documentary about how minor words exchanged in a negative way about a certain group of people turn into hate crimes, thus ending in genocide. I had the opportunity to speak with a holocaust survivor who was a younger friend of Otto Frank ( Anne Frank's father) and he told me that Otto told him the real reason the holocaust as well as other genocides started was because of a three letter word. A word we all use in order to group things together. "THE" is the reason behind the holocaust, hitler was just an aid to that word. THE Americans, THE, Jews, THE, Blacks, THE Native Americans, THE Christians. My documentary contained this information. After my documentary had been viewed you would be surprised at the amount of people in the room who were crying, a few adults who had doubted my abilities had came up to me afterwards and thanked me, they said they had learned something through my documentary. I'm fourteen, I'm in the eighth grade and I did that. This just shows that kids can do something powerfull in the world and that we're not all irrisponsible and stupid. My other friends did documentaries just as good as mine on puppy mills, child abuse, cancer, and drug abuse. So if you're being doubted because of your age . You can change their minds.

Sometimes we are ignored when we are young and perhaps even treated with distain.

It is up to you really, if you make a wise or sensible post I would hope that those older than you would treat that post for what it was worth and give you the respect it deserves.

Equally if you behave childishly to will be treated like a child.

You should also remember that people over 30 are not ancient and those over 70 do not necessarily have one foot in the grave, and hopefully it is often the case that age brings wisdom.

So do I. And the way some of them behave pretty much has a big first impression. But my mom thinks I won't have my "teenage" years as in the "rowdy, rebellious phase" because so far I haven't and she thinks I don't have that in me. And neither do I.

That should have been "sometimes." There are people here who think that once you pass 40, you're too senile to be relevant to society. It isn't that your opinions aren't valid, it's that your base of experience is fairly limited at 15. Teens tend to see things as mostly black and white. As you get older, you realize that life is more often shades of gray.

No way. I always look at the comment. If the comment is reasonably intelligent then that's fine but sometimes the comment is so idiotic and immature I then check to see the age of the person sending it. What it comes down to if you want to discuss or debate that's greet but if you just want to be a total ass then I've got no time for you. That's regardless of your age.

This was happening, so I took my age off my profile. I'm not even that young, but apparently if you're under 40 here your opinions don't count. I would guess that after the age of about 70 this starts happening again. Unfortunate. Everyone has an input to make, regardless of age.

People don't take me seriously because of my age, they take me seriously because of my education and experience.

When I was 15 I didn't think people took me seriously either. By the time I turned 20 I figured out why. (my now 24 year old son experienced the same thing) It's not because you shouldn't be taken seriously it's because most 15 year olds don't have the experience or knowledge to be taken seriously in general.

I recently had a discussion with a high school student who claimed that logic is unique to everyone. In other words he claimed that something could be logical to him but not to me. That is simply a statement out of ignorance. Logic is clearly defined. What is logic applied to me is logic applied to anyone. He was quite an intelligent young man but he didn't have a broad enough base of acquired knowledge to make such arguments.

Hang in there young people, eventually you will take your place in society and I pray you all are as excited then as you are now about sharing your gifts.

Not for age, but that only happened with my parents when I was young. As an adult, I say status is what makes others take anyone seriously.

I've gotten into conversations with people, and when I eventually tell them how old I actually am, they're always surprised and say I'm smarter than most adults they've had in their lives. Am I the only one who thinks it's kind of sad to be underestimated?

Yes, if I talk religiously I automatically become "rebellious" and "looking for attention". If I talk politically "I don't know what I'm talking about" or "I'll
see" or "I'm stupid". Apparently 15 year olds are incompetent and can't form a proper thought.
