Do Men Prefer Mean Girls?

We recently explored whether women are attracted to jerks. But is the same true for guys? A writer for How About We says women are "mean if we don't really want to settle down with one guy (but we don't feel like being 100 percent single)." Also, she adds, "We might continue the tradition of meanness if we’ve grown up with it in our own families." But is all this a turn-on for guys?

mean girl

Men’s Fitness thinks it is, for the following reasons:

1) The "Hard to Get" Factor: Just as Groucho Marx said, "I don’t care to belong to any club that will have me as a member." Sadly, if a woman is not interested in a man, he might be more interested.

2) Men Are Commitment Challenged: If a woman isn't nice to a guy, it gives him an "out." Meaning he doesn't have to get married and have babies anytime soon.

3) Too Much Media: Pop culture portrays mean girls as sexy, and guys are confused.

4) "Mommy" Issues: If his mom was like Mommie Dearest, odds are he's looking for the same. Do you think guys prefer mean girls?

I think men prefer nice, sweet girls that they can have fun with. Who wants a mean girl that is cruel to them and to others. Mean is not attractive at all.

It's different with girls. A guy never finds out they are mean until after they get their hooks into them. Jerks are jerks ALL the time.

The armchair psychology is bunk. "Hard-to-get" is fine, unless the dude has no standards. But meanness and aloofness are something totally else, especially if you're already in a relationship, where that kind of behavior is (in my mind) very un-feminine, totally psychologically unsupportive and a huge turn-off.

I don't agree with that definition of "mean." A girl who just wants to casually date is automatically mean? Wft? A person is "mean" when their personality is nasty and unkind. I hope nobody likes that.

I don't think self-confidence is the question here. I think everybody, guy or gal, is looking for a self-confident partner--unless they have issues themselves.

Exactly. Many people see self-confident individuals (especially girls, perhaps) as mean, so those who answer "Yes," might just be mistaken.

Men prefer mean "girls"? No! Most men prefer females that are confident but not arrogant. Intelligent but not intellectual. Fit but not fanatical. Men prefer females that are independent but not pushy. Most men do not like wishy washy mean "girls". Those types of girls only work for guys in bed.

Girls like mean guys because they are insecure - it doesn't work the same the other way round. Men are less emotional and more logical as a rule and don't consider having grief in their life to be a good thing. Of course there are those couples who thrive on the whole Break-up / Make-up cycle...

It's been my experience men seem to prefer "mean" girls and whores with fake boobs and butts. I don't know if they're just attracted to it for a one-nighter or a real relationship.
I had many a weekend without a date until I met my husband (second). Oh well, it was worth the wait.
No, I didn't need the fake things, I had enough of my real own. I wasn't known for sleeping around though. After my divorce from my 1st husband (don't ever get married at 18!) men seemed disappointed I wasn't "hot to trot." At least I can live with myself and have no regrets on that matter.

I disagree with the definition. Girls are not mean if the don't want to settle down with one guy. That describes a girl who is simply not interested in being in a committed relationship. There is nothing either mean or nice about not wishing to settle down. Personally, I find independent women very attractive; likewise, I find those who deem such women to be mean girls proportionally unattractive.

They want a 'Badd Bitch" Usually the "Badd" ones are the people those popular black kids hang out with, and all of them are rude and retarded. I'd say about 75% of my moddle school was black including me, so I really got teased. Its the same with all people though.

I don't believe men are attracted to mean girls - at least not for long, and certainly not for a serious, long term relationship. I don't believe that women are either - not for the long haul.

A woman needs to be sweet and loving. Not to say she can't be a strong intellegent woman which in itself is an attraction. Mean does nothing for me personally but some guys like to be subs and have a DOM woman...to each his own.
