i know guys who like smart women, and guys who like dumb women. so far that i can see, most men like to "hook up" with dumb ones and get married to smart ones. what is the general consensus on this?

Men don't respect "dumb" women, they just take advantage of them!!!
It's the smart ones they truly respect...and many are intimidated by them.

Let's be honest (Besides being Neanderthal's from time to time) men generally want what women want.

Except some men (having that Neanderthal approach working more often) they will choose lust/looks over personality and character.

Women are also into looks but a personality/intelligence is equally important in that deciding factor.

So all in all - Yes, Men want a women that is smart (Does not have to be rocket scientist but Common sense smart works) ;)

It largely depends upon what you consider "smart" or "dumb" Generally speaking, time is the best teacher. In the case of romance, they both seem to learn what programs them for failure. Imagine what your great grandparents had to do just to stay alive. They were happy to do it !
