Before people even knew what a tablet was -- and how it differed from a laptop or smartphone -- some couldn't wait to get their hands on it. Now that it's been around for a few years, it's time for kids to jump on the bandwagon. With their own kid-version of a tablet, of course. The child-friendly Tabeo will set you back about $150 and it'll be available at Toys R Us. Do you think having tablets for kids is a good idea?

LATIMES.COM reports:
Toys R Us said it will begin selling a tablet designed for kids that will feature extensive parental controls, 50 preloaded apps and games and a cheaper price than other tablets.

There is a new one from V-Teach, I think that is the brand that a tablet is selling these days.
It comes with video Camera, music and movie down load features as well as a lot of learning options.

The only thing is that those kids should be outside playing, making friends, getting excercise and all.

One more useless toy to keep them away from a book, color pencils, to keep them away from playing in the park with kites, marbles, balls or some other activity good for their brains' development.

My daughter has the new Kindle, she loves the learning games and the fact that she can take as many books as she wants with her wherever she goes. While she prefers my iPad, the Kindle is a great learning tool and is not expensive.

The quicker children become familiar and comfortable with the technology that is currently available the quicker they will be able to adapt to the technology that is available when they are young adults and then adults.

Remember that computers were a major advancement that ended up in every business and every home and people who didn't adapt to the technology were left behind for awhile. Our kids are going to need every edge to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving technological global marketplace.

Say what you will about playing habits but the kids that grew up on Nintendo brought you the iPhone and iPad. No 4 year old needs to spend 5 hours a day on any device but for rainy days or long car trips educational software is perfectly acceptable.

This is a "Technology" generation and you don't want your children to be "Technology Illiterate"! They have to keep up with the time so has they get older and begin to work they will have some "Knowledge" of "Technology"!

The only reason i picked this answer is because there are kids with learning disabilites that could benefit from the use of a tablet. Other than that i feel that kids should be using there imagination and playing with lego or using just the simple art of drawing or painting could stimulate a childs creativitiy.

They already can't tell time because everything around them is digital.
Find an analog clock and ask them what the time is. "DUH"
Learning with you hands and feet works your brain.
Pushing those little buttons makes your fingers tired.

In moderation, I think it's fine. But, kids should be playing with toys that require imagination and playing outside more often.

I hear tablets make good babysitters, especially while the parents are home and too busy to pay attention.

Society is very focused on technology, that much is sure. But giving them a tablet because of that doesn't mean they'll be better off. Especially if parents can't/won't take the time to introduce a balance into the kid's life.

Computer skills are essential in today's society. Kids should start learning early. However, this can also be accomplished on a desktop or laptop computer the family already owns. A tablet isn't the only way to go.

The world is moving to a totally electronic society. To say that children should not learn to navigate the internet is like saying they shouldn't have an education. It just doesn't make since. What is called for in this situation is moderation, like many 'old fashioned notions,' everything in small doses is a better answer than total abstinence.

As a parent who home schools their children, I decided to go as "digital" as possible to save time and money. I bought each of my kids a cheap Android tablet, they where about $40 at my local Big Lots store. It has been a great investment. There are many free and cheap resources online, such as textbooks, audio lectures, videos, interactive labs and activities, etc., that allow my kids to be immersed in their school work, giving them a more 3D learning experience.

The best thing, is that we don't have a mountain of books, paperwork, and materials to buy and store and I don't have to go through printer ink at an astronomical rate. And since each of my children are in different grades, it is easier to tailor their assignments individually or change something if I need to. Also at the end of each year I have to submit my curriculum to a certified teacher for review and since it is all digital, I just send it via email and it is done.

Great job. I wish more people would take responsibility for their children like you do. Home schooling is an excellent choice and I'm sure your kids will benefit from not having to go through our horrible public school system. Not to mention it's going to keep you learning too, especially as your kids get older.

Me personally,no.But studies have shown that kids that start watching t.v. from young age are antisocial and with less creative mind.
