Absolutely....have you ever watched kids struggling under the weight of backpacks bigger and heavier than they are !? Makes pefect sense to be able to download textbooks onto a tablet.this should help with astronomical cost of college textbooks too!

Digital text books yes. Let's face it... when they finally agree on it and it's profitable... school books will be on a reader. Kids are lugging 20 plus lb. backpacks. Put that heavy luggage in a reader!

I made it through school just fine without an ipad. Completely uncessary. Could you please sign my child up for for computer eye strain. Give the kids a damn textbook whether or not they pay attention is their problem the medium which their education is brought to them is irrelevant. Oh yeah now that the book is on an ipad i will study it give me a damn break. The novelty will wear off in a week or so.

I'm a middle school nurse in Texas, we use them in our school. The kids seem to be more engaged in their work, the kids can bring their personal devices or use the ones from the school.

I think that learning should be free from all forms of distractions. As valuable as those devices are, they don't really help as much as distract. Kids are so excited to use it that they don't really do what they need to be doing. I think, the best learning environment for kids is an outdoor classroom where they can have fun and learn naturally.

This is a far more technological world than how it was 50 years ago. What is the point of only developing new technology for private use. Something like the ipad has a large scale of possible uses, many that can cause major benefits to the educational system, so why limit such a thing.

I think that having them in the classroom can be both an advantage and disadvantage. It can be a distraction, but at the same time help them stay up to date with the newest technology which can be a great plus in the workplace.

No, coming from a high school student. and i like technology as much if not more then most but tech should not take over in schools. books cant malfunction and its not very easy to break books so no in the long run schools would be even more in debt cause they would have to replace the ipad or whatever every time a kid drops it or decides it would be fun to destroy it and then would have to replace all the stuff on it and then when they become outdated the schools would have to replace them all. so no it really wouldnt be saving money in the long run. But it may be a good idea for colleges because the people would be more mature and would be less of a chance of them destroying it.

I disagree what do u mean won't save money in the long run I can promise u it would for example would u rather replace 30 ipads or 300 text books wait 1,500 text books remember u have to renew all subjects. And what do u mean not mature enough I bet unless ur in a private school that only 10% of the whole school has had I pads and that children would really apreciate it if the school made learning fun tell me would u throw away fun learning

You are so right what does it cost to prdocue a textbook 90 cents per copy. You dont think the publishers will grow wise and increase charges as the new medium grows in popularity. You sir, are ignorant. Learinig is as fun as you want it to be technology is irrelevant.

Don't like them at all. Such a waste of tax payers money and electricity. I thought we were supposed to be SVAING electricity, not wasting it. I mean, what happened to good old pens and paper? Kids wont be able to write, only type. They'll probably never read a proper book again. Yes, this is coming from a high schooler . The laptops that the government handed out are a MAJOR pain in the ass so yeah, just saying, most people would prefer not to have it.

The school that I currently attend gave all of the highschool students an Ipad2. We have tons of restrictions (no facebook, no youtube, no app store, etc). I love it. It's really convenient to have all my books in one place, and being able to take notes and have the internet for research all in one place.

Yes,and no...I mean yes at times everyone would like to have a IPad and Digital Textbook instead of lugging around those heavy books. The cons of this though is that they could get lost, and then they wouldnt have anything to use for textbooks. Those things also get taken alot of times and people arn't very careful with things...so yes, it would be good and no, it wouldn't be good...

Digital delivery media would end the stranglehold that text book publishers have on our curricula.This would allow individual districts, schools, or even teachers to choose the best texts for their needs.

Ive seen plenty of year 7's chucking their iphones across the table and smashing them, if we were to stop using textbooks then I think schools would become bankrupt very quickly, unless they invent iphones and ipads that are virtually indestructable them there's no problem with them being in a classroom. Also, textbooks aren't that heavy, try carrying around a laptop and 2 full art folders! :P

Definetely,for many years I lugged heavy bags full of books to school. After leaving school I went to work in construction where,for another 35yrs I had to lift all sorts of scaffold and heavy materials related to the work that I was doing.After succoming to back problems and other related injuries,retired....only to hear that the workplace health and safety rules were revamped and the lifting of heavy wieghts was outlawed. If these laws are good enough for workers then why not for the children that probably inspired the initial need to work at all.Best to 'nip this in the bud' now rather than pay millions of dollars in compensation and medical bills later...the books and sporting equipment that kids need can always be held aside as 'backup' with proper means of transporting them later if anything should go wrong with the digital forms.

I remember when I was a kid I had a ton of books I would have to haul around with me to every class I went to. This is the perfect solution. Besides, exposing our youths to all different forms of technology will only make them even more tech-savy in an ever advancing world.

I prefer a textbook myself. But the weight of the books in my child's packback weigh 45 lbs. That is ridiculous! Let the teachers carry that much weight on their backs everyday, and they would make changes quickly. Our kids are the generation that will use computers to do almost everything.
