So we should just be happy that Christians are less violent with their hatred of us; and shut up? Actually, My favorite are Pagans. They are pretty accepting of everyone, whether they agree or not. I've never had a pagan be hateful to me for my lack of faith.

True, but I know of no place where they are in the majority or run the government.

And I have met lots of Christians and only about ten percent of them hated me...

10% is still a lot more than 0%. I've also recieved nothing but love from Buddhists and Taoists.

I take your point. Buddhists often don't believe in ANY god or gods. Taoism does not fall under an umbrella or a definition of a single organized religion like the Abrahamic traditions.

True. I guess that line from "The DaVinci Code" is right: "As long as there is one god, there will be people who are willing to kill for him."...or at least hate for him.

Likewise, I've posted my disagreement with Christians on here many times, with nothing but respect. I've even had some really pleasent debates with Christian friends; but every time I do, inevitably a Christian has to tell me I'm going to hell, or I'm ignorant, or my personal favorite: "well you'll see when you're dead, but it'll be too late then!"
    Hate goes both ways.

"Do Atheists attack Christians more than any other religion?"

It certainly seems that way here on SodaHead. Judaism and Islam seem tied for number two.

This Pure Land Buddhist has waited for an attack from the Atheists. However, all I've seen is praise for my religion from Atheists. It could be that the Atheists don't really understand Buddhism.

As an atheist, I admire good people and philosophy, regardless which supernatural beliefs they hold. What I oppose, and sometimes attack; is an individual who claims to "know" that their beliefs are true, and that anyone who doesn't share them are fools, or even worse: evil. I have been told time and again, always by Christians; that as an atheist, I have no morals, or that I don't have any reason to be a good person, and that I must therefore:NOT be a good person. These are people who have never met me, they just know that all things "good" come from their interpretation of "God".
In my experience, Buddhists are less judgmental. So are Pagans and Taoists. And they are certainly less hateful. I'm sure there are exceptions, but so far I've never come across them.

Yes. I've received the, 'If you're not one of us, then you have no morals,' message from Fundamentalist Christians and minority, non LDS, Mormons. I have not received anything like that from other types of Christians, including Catholics and mainstream Protestants.

I've been told that Fundamentalist Muslims are also this bigoted, though I have not seen it.

    - - -

You mention "Taoists." Are there any here on SodaHead?

I don't know of any on here. I had a philosophy professor who was, and he introduced me to some of his friends. If I were going to take up a religion (such as it is) I would consider Taoism or Buddhism.

I've been judged by every breed of Christian, and Muslim, and Jew. It seems like the Abrahamic religions are the worst.

Not all the Abrahamic religions are the worst. You'll find some quite open minded. It's the Fundamentalists within the the Abrahamic religions who are the worst.

Absolutely, and I don't mean to paint every member of every church of each of the monotheisms with the same brush. My friend Sam is a minister at a very open-minded Methodist Church. My friend Jenny is a pastor at a very progressive United Church of Christ, and My friend Chris is a very open-minded Jew, and his temple is very open and loving too. I've been welcomed with open arms to all of their churches, and treated like family. I'm only saying that those who HAVE been hateful and judgmental, were ALL Abrahamic.

The Atheists in America do because it's the most popular religion in this country. Atheists in predominantly muslim countries probably attack Islam more than any other religion. This is likely due to the fact that both these religions have followers that try to legislate their religious morality in into the laws of the places they live.

So, if I went to a Buddhist country, like Japan, I would find Atheists there attacking Buddhism? That has not been my experience. Japanese Atheists attack Christianity.

Buddhism says nothing about there being a god and Buddhists rarely try to force their beliefs on others. So I'm sure Japanese Atheists feel they don't have to attack the Buddhist religion. As for Japanese Atheists attacking Christianity, I've never seen this before. where have you seen it?

From what i see the majority of atheists don't attack any religion, simply treat pushy religions the same way.... but if you life a Christian majority nation, it only seems right that atheists will end up pushing back against Christianity more so than any minority religion.

Also any observant people will have noticed that Jews, Wiccans and Buddhists among others don't try top push their religion on us and don't tell us that we're horrible, vile people, we tend to return the favour and leave them alone. While atheists can often come across passive aggressive Christians.

Really it's a matter of the predominant...

"Attack" is not a word I would use. However, yes. I also believe this is certainly just a symptom of the demography of the major players here (US), which is almost universally Christian.

If the Western world was predominantly Muslim, we would be seeing the same influences. I do not believe the flavor or religion has anything to do with it (speaking as an atheist).

here, yes. but only due to their abundance. the hostile ones don't have much choice in the matter. That and it being the most popular religion in the world, that oppresses the rest.
And of course, you have to remember eveeryone in the west seems to oppress islam. Well, atleast the vocal ones.

I believe people like Bill Maher think ALL religions are silly. I don't agree but they do have a right to their opinion. An atheist's "attacks" will not bring the Christian religion to an end...we Christian's are much stronger than that.

I think it is the atheists that are attacked by all religions.Atheists never demand that a believer should become a non believer, but a religionist tries to bully a non believer into a believer.

Speaking as a person who is spiritual but not religious, I see christians, especially the Pentecostals wage a "war" with non-believers (of their dogma) including Jews, Muslims, Roman Catholics and Atheist.

They seem to think it's their way or no way.

It may seem so on here or even in America but that is because on here and in the US christians are vocal majority. maybe if they got over the silly idea that Atheism was anti christian and learned that Atheist feel the same way about each and ever god. Be they christian/jewish/muslim (all the same god), buddhist, hindu, wiccan. shinto, pagan and on and on.

I think part of the problem is really a desire of christians to be persecuted by others.

Most of the time I stay out of any type of god talk. I find that my way of seeing things puts me at odds with all most all side. I think this poll as shown that some people from both side can take it too far. What I mean by too far is that their hate slips in and not calm collected thoughts. Some just hate when they could debate their points.
