It works if you want to quit and are willing to take a look at yourself. I also suggest that you get a sponsor that will kick your ass and help you see the truth. I know many people who have gotten there life back in AA...

they work if you work the steps and want to stay sober more than you want to drink

If you want them to. My family has LOTS of alcoholics in it and the ones that chose to seek help through AA meetings no longer have a problem.

    MAJOR YES.
For me at least. I am about to celebrate my first year sober as an adult.
Meetings alone will not work, though. You need to WANT to get sober. If you haven't had enough, then you are not ready and no amount of meetings will help
If you want to stay sober you need to follow the sugestions. Get a sponsor, get a home group, do the steps throughly (it's not a race), get a commitment (I have 2), call people in AA, and help others.
Meetings are also a place to scope out hot gals. No 13th stepping, just looking. :^p

I don't think it is right for me but I think it helps a lot of people. I went to NA shortly after gettting off of drugs. I ended up back on them because everyone kept talking about them. Anytime i went to a meeting I would want to get high and I ended up relapsing. I got clean on my own. I think in order to get right you have to try out different options that work for you and once you find one stick with it.

I just started going to one that meets once a week at my church. I am newly sober going on 32 days. The people that go to the meeting are very supportive.

BUT ONLY IF YOU WANT HELP. There is no use going if you cant admit you have a problem and need to change your ways. My brother joined the sober crowd a little over 3 years ago. It changed his life because HE wanted to change. Hes actually religious now, but his life is in order and hes really happy. Im so happy and proud of him. If it wasnt for AA, he would be dead.

They worked for my father for roughly two years. Then he went to Italy to visit his family and came back drunk. He never went back to AA. He was drunk as a skunk when he died face down on the kitchen table. Terrible thing.
