Open up your food palate, it's about to get real dirty! Na Quittez Pas in Tokyo put in the real dirty work when it started offering its patrons dishes like 'dirt soup', clams with a top layer of sediment, dirt ice cream, and other grimy offerings. At about $110 per person, is this just a dirty trick or earthy dining at its finest?

    Why pay a ridiculous amount of money for dirty food??? You can eat that in your own kitchen...go play in the dirt and then instead of washing your hands and using utensils, dont wash your hands and eat with your fingers. People do it everyday, it doesn't make it healthy!!!

    Right now, there's a plethora of delicious things to choose from, why choose dirt unless there's nothing else to eat. I heard this dirt is not just any dirt but some sort of rich volcanic ashes loaded with minerals. I still would not eat it since there are better sources of minerals out there.

    Lemme see.....worm poop and slime; animal poop and pee; Anthrax; radioactivity; different flavours of vomit; blood from roadkill; spit from passersby; - well, at least if they're digging up old graves to capture the nutrients and minerals in the dirt it might be something to consider having as a side plate.

    It is called Geophagy - Eating Dirt - and most common in the Southern US and Africa. Pregnant women eat clay from specified pits. The clays contain nutrients, like a multivitamin.

    You are right. If you troll the net, you'll be able to buy edible mineral clay. I'll take my multi vitamin first before I eat the clay though and I am a pretty adventurous eater. However, there are people out there who have weird eating habits, i.e., eating non food such as eating cardboard, eating any dirt, eating rocks, eating cement, eating their own hair, etc, there was a documentary about this a few months ago.

    Sedimentary rock looks tasty. I would not actually eat it due to the number of microorganisms it contains, but it does look appetizing. As a kid I tasted it (I think?)-- and it was a gritty experience.
