Sort of ..
I made a promise to myself ..
that NEVER would my children know ..
any day/time withOUT food .. shelter ..
so yes, I did keep that promise ..
they never knew any time growing up (like I did)
where there was definite needs ...
but ..
that doesn't mean SPOILED as in the way I see too many ..
(no cars from me .. they had chores to do .. they needed to apply themselves to their schoolwork and I expected them to be a family .. )

If they fought over a toy, Daddy got the toy. If they came to me crying I told them to sit on their bed until they were finished crying and then come to talk to me, five minutes or so later I'd hear I'm done crying now can I come out? Then we'd talk about what had them crying and see if we could fix it... Usually could...
I helped them with their homework and loved doing it when I was home, being Navy I was gone a lot. Mainly if I spoiled them, I spoiled them with love. Did, and still do love my kids more than my life.
All that, and I never had to spank any of them more than once in their life, and then not hard. I raised strong girls that don't cry unless there's nothing else to do for it. And if they've got a problem they fix it...
We didn't spoil them but we tried to give them the things that would serve them well in life like a good education and love of learning, curiosity about life, issues, love of family, good moral guidance. They both graduated from college with honors and are gainfully employed and they're both really very nice people. I think we did a good job.
