Did you know why very few Amish kids give up their beliefs when they become adults?

One of the reasons is that they allow young adults a period to try out alternatives before making a life-time commitment. See report here explaining:

    YES, I know [tell us].
Most people do stay in their traditions. Many stray for a while. Only Amish communities make it formal!

Because I cheated and read the original article this morning :-) There's an Amish community near me. The kids all go into the local bar and change their clothes then party all night. Then they ride their bicycles home. Funny to watch. The young man who cart trained my pony is adorable, I keep waiting to see that beard growing on his chin.

One of the funniest things I've seen was a buggy pulling a trailer, on this trailer was a great big walk-behind self-propelled lawn mower :-) And a buggy with a dozen kids holding on, coasting on their bicycles.

NO, I don't [comment as you wish].
I know they have a certain time in their life where they're free to experience the world as it is. So maybe that's an influence on their decision
