I'm not a fan of FDR, but as one knowledgeable of history i have to defend him. HE didn't dress as a girl, HIS MOTHER dressed him the way all little ones at the time were dressed. Boys, once they could wear boy clothes, wore pants that were buckled just below the knee until they were at least in their late teens; then they got to dress in men's long pants. I'm not sure whether there was an intermediate period in there where they dressed in short pants. I have pictures of my daddy in the knee length pants but none in short pants. He was born in 1915, tho, and I don't have but two pics of him before he was about 15 or 16; I guess most people didn't have cameras then or couldn't afford the film and developing. That would have been during and right after the depression.

That's how they dressed young children back than. Wasn't consider feminine clothing as it was consider 'children's clothing.
    He wasn't breeched yet.

the times were different - it was a big deal to cut off the curls and wear long pants. In the 40's - late 50's - boys wore short pants and 'graduated' to long pants. Now parents dress and treat their children like adults - pretty amusing when you look back through time and find that prior to 16th - 17th century that is exactly what adults did; treated them like little adults and they put them to work just after the toddler stage.

In the old days moms didn't dress their little boys like little men, the dressed them like dolls. Besides it was easier to clean up their rears as needed. Unless you were a seamstress or had one on the payroll, you had to make your own little boy clothing.
