Twice in my life. Once when I was a child everyone in my class had it. Than once when I was an adult, because the daycare my daughter went to had gotten infected by an infected child and my daughter brought it home. Some shampoo, a metal comb and a thorough sterilization of my home and they were gone. No big deal. Just itchy.
When my sister became a Big Sister in the "Bigs" Program a couple years ago , the little girl she was paired with had head lice along with all her siblings. Their mother made no attempt to rid her family of the problem. The teacher at her little sister's school saw the problem and the school nurse sent a bottle of shampoo for head lice home with her with instructions for her mother. Her mother saw the Walgreen's tag on the bottle and tried to get a cash refund. Fortunately , the school system and Walgreens have a way to track what the schools receive and busted her for it.
She got a warning from DCS , but that was about it. It showed what a poor excuse for a mother this poor little girl and her siblings have. In the interim , before my sister left the program , we saw how many of these poor kids just don't seem to stand a chance to break free. Caught between bad parents and a broken system , they often become their parents.
Please pardon my language , Sister. But it's a damn shame!
I never did but my daughter got them from sharing batting helmets playing softball. We had a horrendous time getting rid of them because she had so much hair! It was a nightmare and I sympathize with anyone who has children that get them.
Captured from my daughter. I can't even begin to tell you just how awful it was. Heck - - my head is starting to itch at the memory of it. It was SEVERAL years ago!

My apologies for going off.
