1st things first....Jacko offered $500,000 for the skeleton of Joseph Merrick (Elephant Man). Joseph Merrick was not cremated so there never were any ashes. Jacko then doubled his offer to a $1,000,000 which also was rejected.

No this was false, this was actually a rumour made by Michael himself, michael wanted to see if the media believed everything, this is how the rumour began, michael would have never bought the remains of the elephant man, although he liked the story,he would have never bought them. it is a no
but everyone is wierd in their own way ;)

Let's get something straight: MICHAEL JACKSON NEVER PURCHASED THE BONES OF JOHN "THE ELEPHANT MAN" MERRICK".

If I am not mistaken that started out as a publicity stunt (possibly by Jackson, himself). The story (along w/ the 1 about the hyperbaric chamber) was planted to keep MJ's name in the papers. The chamber was a donation on his part to the burn ward that took care of him after the Pepsi Incident. Sadly, both stories took on a life of their own & people actually started to believe them. It was simultaneously marketing genius in which he was also "hoisted by his own petard".

In an interview with the CBC on June 17, 1987, David Edwards, chief administrator of the London Hospital Medical College, stated that Michael Jackson made a $500,000 offer to buy the Elephant Man’s bones. But the bones were not for sale!

So Michael did not buy the bones, but he tried to buy them.

    The proof is there:

the media is most likely exaggerating the whole thing. Michael had a passion for history. He said he relates to Joseph Merrick life story. Idk. fuck it, they are both dead.

He did try to buy the remains of Joseph Merrick aka The Elephant Man, but to no availe. He's denide it but I found this online
    DATELINE: LOS ANGELES, May 29
LOS ANGELES, May 29 /PRN/ -- Michael Jackson has submitted an official bid, for an undisclosed sum, for the remains of the late John Merrick, known as the Elephant Man, from the London Hospital Medical College which has kept them since Merrick's death in 1890.

According to Jackson's manager, Frank Dileo of Los Angeles: "Jackson has a high degree of respect for the memory of Merrick. He has read and studied all material about the Elephant Man, and has visited the hospital in London twice to view Merrick's remains. His fascination with their historical significance increased with each visit, along with hopes to add them to his collection of rare and unusual memorabilia at his California compound."

"Jackson," Dileo added, "has no exploitative intentions whatsoever and cares about and is concerned with the Elephant Man as a dedicated and devoted collector of art and antiques.
