Denim on Denim: Fashion Do or Fashion Don't?

A denim sandwich. Denim on denim. A Texas tuxedo. Call it whatever you want (my friend once deemed the look "A walking, talking piece of denim") but wearing all denim is definitely a tricky look to pull off.

Hailee Steinfeld is one of the few that has done so successfully (google "Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears denim" for a classic example of what NOT to do.) The young actress was spotted wearing a J Brand denim button-up with Joe's Jeans leopard-print skinny jeans at a charity event in Los Angeles. This outfit is not for the faint of heart and only a select few could pull it off, but Steinfeld makes it look easy. What do you think? Is denim on denim a fashion do... or fashion don't?

Not a fan. It's sort of like wearing a jean jacket with jeans. If you're going to pair denim with denim, one of the pieces should be a dark wash and the other should be lighter.

Levi made them tough, so the miners could wear them until they rotted off.
Then they got a new pair.
I but from either Walmart or Costco and they are always less than $20.

It can be awful or fine, depending on the pieces and who's wearing it. Justin and Brittany look ridiculous because they're wearing a costume. Jay Leno just looks like a regular guy. Hailee Steinfeld looks cute in her outfit.

Denim is never 'fashion' ~ it's proletarian work-wear. It's casual clothing to avoid nudity but it's only 'fashion' if 'beguiled', 'quilted', 'applicaed' or 'embroidered' as a fashion substitute. Like short pants on boys, to be outgrown with maturity or endured as tasteless, unimaginative, lazy attire. Denim may be classy at the dude ranch, all starched & crispy but ironed & starched burlap is just as 'fashionable'. These pictures of Timberlake & Spears in denim make an excellent case against 'Texas Tuxedos' & Jay Leno demonstrates the moronic marriage of slack jaw yokels & blue jeans.

Wish this had a "who cares" button? If someone wants to wear denim on denim, who is being hurt by it? Anyone who doesn't like it can choose not to do it, and can choose to look the other way if they see someone else wearing it, whether they look good or not.

There are far more important things in this world than who is wearing double denim... :)
