D.C. Students Should Be Paid for Summer School Attendance: Agree?

I think their PARENTS should force them to get a job in the summer, flipping burgers or picking up trash on the side of the road...Let them see what life will be like when they make poor grades and behave badly..

They'd do nothing, learn nothing and just waste the cash. They'd be government workers...

The students should be charged to pay for the summer school. In most cases, the student chose not to do required assignments or study for test that resulted in their failure. The other option would be to hold them back and make them repeat the previous grade. I remember when kids where held back for failure and had an option to catch up in the summer...We are raising a society of WHIMPY LAZY kids that think they are intitled to everything someone else has...though not willing to study, work or even strive toward success. We've got to stop the culture of dependancy

If they don't want to end up in Summer School they need to shape up during the year.

In America our government is in the decline and very near the end of sanity and thus our voters have been trained to accept that stupidity problems can always be resolved by stealing from tax payers .. and our voters continue to vote into office and hire people who love stupidity.

also I consider this move by DCns to convince vapid voters to vote for Obama the magnanmous using other peoples moneys... to whit.. many many many teaching unions are finding excuse after excuse to force tax dollars to be used to employ them year round .. just one more way to convince the uneducated who teach the uneducated and fail them to keep schools open year round...

do you see what I mean? A vicious cycle imposed upon an unsuspecting population who have been educated to believe government shall always know what is best for all of us ... especially the collective treatment of progeny.

People could balance summer school and a job. They failed by their own account, so the fact that it will be difficult is nobody's fault but their own. Furthermore, this is a bit of a slap in the face to people who pass. If those who pass want to earn money in the summer, they need to get a job. And this includes the students who enjoy being in class and could responsibly use the time to better themselves by getting ahead.

I wish someone would pay ME to go to school.. ... ... I'd quit my job in a New York Minute.. well.. as long as the Mayor hasn't cut them down to New York Seconds so everyone would get smaller units.

They shouldn't have to pay so much but they definitely shouldn't be PAID for it.

I always heard that the class doesn't fail you. Rather you fail the class. Why should you be paid for failing. In the case of kids who just want to get ahead, I think that summer school should always be an option. In my county for example we have to pay 25 dollars for summer school. Right now they don't allow kids who just want to get ahead, but if it keeps the summer classes open I'm for it.

Know what? I think this whole thing has to do using schools as baby sitters - while the parent(s) have time to fart around during the day. If a kid had been sick (and documented by a physician) then he/she should be allowed to go to summer school to make up lost time - BUT NOT BE PAID FOR IT. That will prove the kid WANTS to learn and not going just to get $$.

Ya know, in THAT case of a child being ill through no fault of their own, I can see summer school being paid for by tax money. But if you're kid is going to summer school because he was a lazy dumbass...! *LOL*
