Court fines man for beheading wax Hitler

- A German court fined an unemployed man 900 euros ($1,227) Tuesday for knocking the head off a waxwork figure of Adolf Hitler in a Berlin museum.

Minutes after the Madame Tussauds museum opened in the German capital in July, the 42-year-old pushed past security staff ripped off its head. The man, an ex-policeman, said he found it inappropriate to display an exhibit showing the Nazi leader only some 500 meters from Berlin's Holocaust memorial.

The waxwork of a glum-looking Hitler in a mock bunker stirred debate in Germany even before it went on display. Critics argued it was tasteless to display a replica of the man who unleashed World War Two and ordered the extermination of Europe's Jews.

Madame Tussauds said the museum avoided politics, arguing Hitler stood for a significant part of German history and his waxwork therefore had a legitimate part in the exhibition.

The restored figure was returned to the museum in September and is now displayed behind a glass wall.... Read full article »

As a Jew Hitler was a part of history and just like Khan, Stalin and others ignoring him will only let a new one rise up. Also Germany has laws like here and going into a business and vandalizing it is against the law. He could have staged protests outside, organized media campaigns, many things that were not criminal acts to show his disgust with the exhibit.

Like it or not he's a very important historical figure. Germany can't just pretend he never existed. The man should be fined for destroying someone else's property. Doesn't matter if it was a statue of Hitler and Stalin playing cards.

I don't like a lot of shit, but you can't just go knock some head off, just because you're a cop. A lot of people would like toknock the heads off a lot of cops too.

The article above said he was an ex-cop. I don't see any connection between that fact and his actions here.

First of all......it wasn't the man's property so he should have his ass fined! My neighbor was a supporter of Obama- and she use to dress up her house (not anymore she stop sniffing the koolaid)in every "yes we can- change " crap that you can imagine. Everyday that I and my neighbor walk her dog- I felt like going over there and knocking down her signs. But- it wasn't my property- and it was her decision and her choice. I, understand, the Jews on this issue- it is a reminder of a cruel beast- but- if we all had these feeling about a person- Obama's statue would have been bashed along time ago. The man had no business doing what he did! Period! reminder cruel beast- feeling person- obamas statue bashed business period

Good, if he wants to destroy effigies of Hitler let him make his own and not fuck up other people's property.

Accurate preservation and recording of history, both proud and shameful, is sacrosanct. And should not be allowed to be altered or defaced. It's value as a reminder of where we can go when we do ill or good is worth more than someone's ideals of the individuals involved.

Even in death, vengeance haunts his head in any form.

The man should not be punished. He should be rewarded.
