In today's economy who doesn't want to save money ? I always shop sales and
I use coupons whenever I can and it's nothing to be ashamed of. I'm a smart consumer
and I enjoy saving money. It's not like I need the money because I can pay full price for just about anything but I am frugal and I don't pay full price if I don't have to.
A penny saved is a penny earned.

They give you 50 cents off but you have to buy three of a larger size than the one that you would have bought. That makes it a total waste of time. You shop based on your coupons not your budget.

I used to but lost my desire since food costs keep going up. Seems we don't come out saving much at all at the end of the shopping trip.

It depends. I feel like you do sometimes, but every little bit helps. Especially if you can line them up with a sale and it's an item you'd use anyway.

I noticed that [duh] the ads and coupons in the paper tend to line up nicely with sales-and the same item is on sale at multiple stores. I can't believe how long it took me to notice that though. I'd clip the coupons and hold on to them till I needed whatever it was instead of using them the week they came out.

See how much we get caught up in this when we want to save $$$$? Easy to do!

I got tired of the coupon "game" because it turned out to be so time-consuming and then when I was ready and got to the store, timing it, I spent about 2 and a half hours there because of those coupons; finding the stuff, the right items according to the coupons, getting them to the check out, etc. Then prices on everything raised and the low cents off coupons don't seem worth it. Now they print you must buy 2 of 1 item to get $1.00 off or whatever.
Years ago coupons did make sense and I saved alot of money. I had fun then.

I agree. It used to be far more worth the effort. The only time I spend boatloads of time on the project now is when I'm not working.

But it also depends on your shopping habits. If you only buy brand name items they can save you money, but if you buy generic you can usually beat the brand name price & get just as good a quality.

When I was younger & broke coupons meant the world to me! I was thankful for the dimes and quarters! The dog food coupons were helpful too. So,I think they're great and it isn't out of the tax payers pocket it's from companies that want your business.

that's fortunate. In my city it isn't happening anymore with the doubling. The stores have quit that and I miss it; really helped save more.

"Waste of Time"? Yes, because taking a few seconds out of your day to clip a coupon is soooo not worth saving money. -_-

right. i think it's cool that there are still ways to spend LESS. unfortunately the ones i always run across are for stuff i don't use.

That happens a lot. Plus we buy a lot of generic items which are usually cheaper than the brand name item even w/ coupon discount.

If they are good ones, like buy one get one free, or .75, 1.00 or 2.00 or more off of something I use...sometimes even a .50 off can be good...other ones not so much..
like mail in rebates...or have to buy 2 or more to save 15 cents...just not worth my time...

yes, the makers of those coupons make it tricky. I had a coupon the other day that said 75 cents off when you buy 2 and it was cereal. 1 box was $5. Have you seen the prices on some cereal? It's stupid to mark them up that high.
The other coupon I threw in the trash was for cookie dough. You had to buy 2 chubs to get a measley .75 cents off when 1 chub was $3.00. Is the coupon that much worth it?
saving 75 cents on $6.00? I'd rather buy a pkg. of already made cookies!
This is why I don't use coupons too much any more.

Maybe, but the vast majority of coupons are for items I rarely need. But hey, if they work for you, that is great. =)

true, just because one has a coupon, doesn't mean they need to use it, because if one doesn't need it, the even if its "less" its still a waste.

but if you happen upon a coupon of somethign you actually need, thats a bonus :)
