Could you remain happy as you are now, if you were poor and destitute, and subjected to the problems of poverty?

Everyone claims that circumstance, nor situation dictates their happiness, and that money doesn't contribute to their well being. Therefore, I wish to know how many people out there truly believes that they could be happy given the following lifestyle:

1. Only enough to pay for a ghetto apartment, in the worst parts of the worst cities, and get the bare necessities, nothing more.

2. Live with a roommate which you require for your livelihood, who is constantly creating problems for you, lest you be thrown out and only have a shelter to go to for help.

3. You can't depend on family or friends for help, because they are equally poor and destitute.

4. You are unable to fulfill your dreams because you lack the resources to accomplish them.

5. You depend on welfare for food stamps, and you can't have children, lest you go hungry and raise children that will suffer your fate.

6. You are constantly subjected to the mentality of gang bangers, drug dealers, and other nuisances that you can't avoid or evade, which lives with you because of necessity.

7. you are living paycheck to paycheck and if you ever get sick, or have an accident, your fate in the cracks of life is sealed.

Would you be able to go through all of the problems of poverty, and still remain as content as you are now?

Take care,

I'd say that even the most optimistic "Life is 95% attitude and only 5% of what happens to you" will meet its match, will completely fail people in some situations. It can be dangerous to live hanging on to any absolutes like that.

I've lived well below the poverty level and close to those in the top few percent. The rich can be miserable, the poor can be happy. There are problem rich people and there are problem poor people. How people act with money or poverty is largely psychological and behavioral rather than anything written in stone, as it were.

    Thanks for the response,

What I was trying to get at was: Money may not create happiness, but it can contribute to your happiness by separating you from problems that are financial in nature, or can be solved through financial endeavors.

    Take care, :)

Hm already doing that, i am somewhat content, but of course problems always arises. But that is life. If there were really no problems to deal with, and just be poor, i would be content still :)
