I live in Florida and yes I could live without it. I wouldn't like it but you might be amazed what you can do if you have to. Never had it as a kid.

I live in miami its hot as Hell here. I cant even have my air condition off for 2 hours before it becomes a sauna.

This question reminds me of a scene from Seinfeld:

Newman: No! That's no reason to kill yourself!

Kramer: Why? It gets hot at night, you can't sleep. You ever tried to sleep in a really hot room?

I I have no need for A/C., its almost always around 65-80 degrees F in the day. 55-60 F at night. I might use a fan once in a while.
Sometimes I use a heater.
My power & gas bills are very minor.

Yes, very lucky that I could pull it off and really make a living here. I was 21 when I decided this was where I wanted to live. It took over 25 years to make it work..

Point Conception Light House- I tried to hike there but Cojo Ranch owns the land on the bluff behind and won't let people pass.

inland is a different paradise, Santa Ynez Valley- Lompoc area.

We didn't need one in Alaska. I survived without one for 4 years in Italy. (think Georgia/South Carolina weather) Most houses there don't have a/c.
I could live without one here, but we'd be a month of uncomfortable-ness.

I know what you mean, I lived in Casa Granda, AZ for a while and walking my dog in the early morning and late at night was still very hot.
