People lived for centuries without A/C, we can too, it's just a matter of do we want to. Things like swimming, fans, light clothing, and cool drinks can all go a long way to cool a body down.

Now, this is limited to my home. I have one AC unit, it is in the kitchen, but that was not always the case. We have an abundance of fans in my house. One for each person, one for the bathroom, one for the kitchen, one for the living room that can float to the bedroom if the humidity is too high. Total of 7.

Now, if I am in a car without AC, it is my own private hell. I require it for my work, because I have actually almost died from heat stroke from working 3 days in a row, all over 100 with no AC or fan in the vehicle. Have not driven a bus without AC since.

I am honestly surprised at the results of this poll. Of all modern things on earth...AC is the one that I need most. I can not sleep if I am hot and there are times in the summer where I could be naked on my back without a single sheet and still sweating bullets without ac!

But what is so funny about this question, is that I grew up without AC all through my home, elementary, junior high and high school and college years. Now in my retirement, in my air-conditioned house (in Michigan-it's 90 outside), I can't live without it.

Yes, in fact I don't really like it. I can do with a fan if I have to. My husband on the other hand cannot live without it so sometimes I come out to the living room bundled up in my robe..even in July. Also I never had A/C growing up in Brooklyn. We made do with fans in the summer.

Yup, and I do. Of course in western Washington, we don't need air conditioning vey often. Now Gortex?, Maybe I'd give into buying that if I spent more time outdoors. We do get rain if you didn't already know.

Not in Houston. I would need to move North. My body generates too much heat with my overactive immune system and constant pain signals. I like ice on my neck and spine.

I have a electric exhaust fan in the roof vent of my motorhome that runs on solar electricity. I leave it on all summer and turn it off in the winter. It obviously only runs during the day. on rare occasion when I want to run the fan after dark I hook it to the battery system that is charged by the main Solar system. I run on totally solar power and it works just great. No I have never had Air Conditioning, yes there is one on the roof, however: I doubt if it works and it sure as heck does not run on solar power.

So, how is living the rest of your life in your 200 square foot home? I actually need a little more room than a motorhome to consider my life "livable".

I do also, and so does my cat, and when I do my house will also be run almost entirely on solar. I was forced to move into my motorhome when some fine gentlemen stole two of my airplanes and so far trying to deal with them in court has cost over a quarter of a million dollars. I just could not pay for anything else and still pay for the Court and Lawyers. So far it has been almost 10 years that I have been in legal action with these fine upstanding gentlemen. It is amazing how broken, malfunctioning, and corrupt our Court System is.

I have lived in Michigan all my life, but I am considering moving south (for better winter time conditions), but I thought that Florida is way too hot most of the year. I was thinking about Tennessee or North Carolina, but how hot is it there from April to October?

It averages low 90's but humidity can be high! Economy is okay. No state income tax, high sales tax, low property tax, gas tax, car tax, insurance. I moved from a northern state and figure I save $5-6000 a year in taxes.

In Florida no way! I rode out the triple Hurricane season here several years ago and was without power for almost 3 weeks. It was murder! I don't ever want to go through that again.
