Back in my 20's yes, now days no Im in no condition to be in the military however if my dad hadnt talked me out of it I would have joined right out of high school. Funny about that, his attitude changed on woman in the military when he got older.

They wouldn't take me anyway. I have scoliosis. It wasn't bad enough to fix but they wouldn't take me because of my back.

I'm sort of a renegade at heart. I don't like the idea of someone telling me what to do and getting right up in my face and yelling at me. I don't know how my sister and brother-in-law do it. Much respect to them and others who can deal with that.

Never got along with Authority very well, and people telling Me all the time what to do,and when to do it,forget it! It takes a certain type of individual to make a career out of the Military, and i am not that type!

I have nothing but admiration for those who serve, but I am a wimp and wouldn't survive even a week at boot camp.

I know myself enought to know I would not do well taking orders blindly....from someone else taking their blindly from someone else....
Plus when you join the military you are giving up your ....self. They are within their laws to use you as they see fit...
ALL that being said I know more then a few people who have been saved by joining the military. They were lost in their lives with no hope for ...anything but drugs and poverty....they had no faith in themselves. Fast forward 2 years and they are working serving their country and going to school and drug booze free. I am proud to know them. I just knew as soon as my recruiter told me I would have a bright future with them ....but I had to loose 10-15lbs....I was 135-145lbs shaply, 5'5, and very pleased with my figure and the best shape of my young life...it clicked in my brain that I would have no choice but conform if I signed the papers...so I didn't. Never looked back:)

Although, my dad tells me that I'm too opinionated and too much of an individual to not be put in solitary. The physical part I would be able to accomplish, but he doubts I would be able to take orders well without inserting my opinion.

He's a vet; he knows me personally, so I value what he has to say.

With the type of personality I have, it is at the bottom of the list for career choice. My sister is in the army. She is a tomboy and naturally tough. I am the total opposite. I wouldn't make it past basic training. I will stick to my books in the library.

Not unless they switched to a policy of non-violence and rethought that whole fascist don't-question-authority thing. I would like to try boot camp, though, just to get in shape and learn to be more disciplined.

I could for sure. I just choose not to serve. But my husband served for 10 years in the Navy making Lt. Commander. I'm very proud of him. My father also served in the Navy. My father in law in the Army. I could go on and on.

no one comes to the military with courage. They think they do but no one is prepared for the real thing. Courage is mostly just self-confidence and just saying something is wrong and you won't stand for it. I think there have been civilians who've shown as much courage as any soldier, sailor, airman or Marine. The Civil Rights marchers of my father's time. They get a salute from me any day.

Did a four year stint in the Air Force. At 60 I don't think I'd pass the physical.
