Could Mitt Romney Really Ban Porn?

In 2007, Mitt Romney said he wanted to ban as much porn as possible. “Computer pornography has given new meaning to the words ‘home invasion,’” Romney said at a 2007 Values Voter summit, “If I am President, I will work to make sure that every computer sold into the home has an easy to engage pornography filter so that every parent can protect their child from unwanted filth.”

A 2007 video of Romney promising to place porn filters on every new computer can be viewed below. Do you think Mitt Romney can ban porn? Or at least make it a lot more harder to watch than it is now?

Oh, you can live, well, without a computer. Learn cursive. Spell words correctly. Interact with humanity better. Avoid reclusion. Hey, you're just a pull of the plug to get there. And, no cells phones: Remember phone numbers. Remember address's. No more, dull, cutsie things to confuse your life. You realize in the next 10 years the power grid overload will force the grid to go down and you'll have to fend without a computer anyway. Welcome to reality. The passing phase is about to occur.

Oh yeah, I'm already half way there. I got rid of the "hell phone" (nobody really has that much to say that doesn't sound better on a wall phone). And, because of being "slowed down" on speed at home ( and paying more for it) I've gotten rid of the home service and, more or less, use this monkey at work. Where it is required. Imagine how stupid that is? Now, you're turn. I doubt you can do it. I'll bet you're addicted to texting and are so insecure you use the "hell phone" for security purposes. I tell ya, the yanks think more of themselves than the rest of the world does.

So glad you're great at avoiding technology! If you want to go it, great for you and more power to you.
You sure are making quite a lot of assumptions about me, maybe you're right, maybe you're not, you'll never know. Either way, feel free to do what you want, I'll live my life how I want. Don't take my porn.

I'm also very glad for your employer that you are using their computers to be on SodaHead. Great use of time and money!

You really don't need the porn. Quit defending it. Quit promoting it. It's your devil inside that wants it. Tick-tock,tick-tock,tick-tock.

What do we really *need*? Not much. Enough food to physically survive, shelter from harsh elements, and water.
What do we WANT to live a life we enjoy? Porn.
Quit defending your own ridiculous need to quash everyone else's lifestyle - if you don't need porn, don't watch it. Get over yourself and be happy that other people are happy. It's YOUR devil inside that wants to force your own ideal lifestyle on others and YOUR devil inside that enjoys others' discontent.

    GTFO.

You're too funny. I just think Romney shoud ban it because your addiction to it brings out the anger and hatred towards others. But, I also believe they should ban the "birth control pill" too. And "viagra, since there's too many pregnancies in an age where contraception is readily available. Learn the lessons of how it was 50-60 years ago when life was "swell".....
No, you might like porn and snuff films, child pornography, gay and lesbian pornography but I like things you probably wanted to ban, and have banned, so what's the difference? Is it always all about you? You are too funny.

What have I banned that you like?

I just don't understand why you so want to return things to the good ol' days. I personally don't see the advantage and you haven't said anything to convince me otherwise - if you have real reasons then tell me, I'm genuinely curious to know what they are. I'm not quite sure how banning porn, viagra, and birth control will benefit us?
  • mind-pilot Any 2012/08/02 17:10:28

Are you aware that, although, America's exports are down there are two exports that Americans hold the highest gross in world wide exporting is: pornography and illegal drugs. That's it. They don't even pay taxes on their sales of Americas greatest exports. And you're an American and you appear to be enabling illegal drug and pornographic sales. That's pretty bitchen, huh?
Besides, I'm for not registering my hand guns, hand held assault pistols and rifles and I don't. No big deal. But years ago the NRA said my ownership of hand grenades ( for hunting) is illegal. Where are they coming off?
I'm sure if you got rid of birth control pills you would stymie the overactive use of recreational sex and, so-called "accidental" pregnancies and abortions and broken homes and sex-based pastimes and all that follows and breeds the addiction for pornography( something about the libido).
It's a pretty simple idea. But the whining "yanks", who want to stick their heads in the sand for fear they will get caught at nasty, dirty, filthy habits claim it's some kind of right. That's prepostorous(sp) and simply stupid and harmful to a growing society.
But, I guess it's all about you, isn't it? And contrary to your belief I'm not sure that allowing porn, viagra and birth control really benefits us? Really?

Good god, I didn't say anything insulting to you in my last post, why are you getting so aggressive, I was being honest in my last post when I asked about your opinion.

I PERSONALLY feel that allowing porn, viagra, and birth control do not negatively affect us and in some cases do benefit us. If you disagree, you disagree.

Why is it that you don't think we should register weapons?
  • mind-pilot Any 2012/08/02 17:59:19

I didn't say you were insulting me. Why are you so sensative to the truth? I'm not agressive, merely explaining the current condition of America. So far, in the states, it seems those with registered weapons massacre the unarmed. Why register? A waste of time. With all of us carrying our weapons no twit like the one in the movie-house-massacre would have dared walk in. What's wrong with that?
I believe it was J.Edgar Hoover who started the registrar of weapons in this country. I'll double check. But things were just as violent before as now. What's the real difference? I'm curious.
I'm against child-sex-slavery, snuff and sex porn and the like. I'll bet it would be gone if everybody carried their own defense.

"Well, I guess it's all about you, isn't it?"

That's what I was referring to when I claimed you were being aggressive. As for you somehow connecting unregistered firearms and the sex industry...

"I'm against child-sex-slavery, snuff and sex porn and the like. I'll bet it would be gone if everybody carried their own defense."

I'm just not buying it. Someone carrying a gun doesn't affect how I do or don't watch porn. I see absolutely no correlation at all. Sorry, i guess we just agree to disagree on this one.
  • mind-pilot Any 2012/08/02 18:40:10

Well, being I was once heavily involved in the entertainment industry I "came upon" many perverted souls in the hard pornography/drug industry and found they too, were carrying weapons. I believe the correlation deals with the "snuff" portion of their products.
But, you go and enjoy the workings of the most popular, highest paying porn-industry( incidentally, they hide their profits in off shore accounts and pay no taxes. Information just released says there is approximately 27Trillion Dollars in hidden, untaxed accounts....) And I'll free carry, like they do, and you don't. See the correlation?
Yes, we walk different paths. One day I might protect your path for your safety. You will protect mine then. I still hope Romney get's the nasty, filthy, coroding-porn banned. If he's a good man, he will.
I praise the silver bullet! It's not all about you anymore.

Hey, I'm in my 60's. And I was in publishing. Hustler was about the most raw on the popular market. Nowadays you have mulitple factions. Smut magazines we didn't have. Snuff mag's with smut, we didn't have. Child porn we didn't have. Gay and lesbian, smut, snuff and child porn. Need I go on to say we are over the top and under the gutter with the worst pornography there is AND....there is programs where you can actually perform self-sex with full climatic responses on your internet. AND...there's more to come. Oh, pull the plug and quit trying to be so cute. You're LOL is showing.
PS get rid of birth control for sexual purposes. And Viagra....grow one.

Dude whats with the attitude? I'm simply stating my opinion just like the thousands of other users on this website. My point was that there was also porn in the 50's; I never said that it was as high tech as it is today. And for a man who seems to be so against pornography, you seem to know your internet porn pretty well. So take your own advice and grow a pair.

Sorry, if I offended you. I just don't think Romney can really do anything that would benefit his "vision". Nothing! The guy is useless and just brings up stuff he can't do and the dildo's believe him.
I do believe the porn in this country is infecting the attitudes of the country. Sorry about the attitude. But the porn in the 50's wasn't nothing like today( including the donkey shows in Tijuana). And, yes, I've been in the entertainment industry ( the most exciting and perverted industry in America) and I've seen more, more, more than I want to explain. So, I've got a pair.

Unless the repulsiv-icans are somehow allowed to destroy the constution specifically the first amendment, murder all opposition to such a tyrranical view point and destroy the minds of all logical, knowledgable thinkers, Mitt, ( a : woman's glove that leaves the fingers uncovered b : a mitten c : a baseball catcher's or first baseman's glove made in the style of a mitten, slang : hand), Romney will not be able to ban ponorography. The term pornography is too broad. For some idiots the mating habits of cattle is pornographic. Since he does not seem to be too savvy regarding technology, he probably does not know that "filter" or parent controlled devices/software are avialable now. I guess his advisers did't advise him.

If I read the post correctly he is suggesting a parental filter to screen porn from computers of underaged children. I don't know of such a thing... The purveyers of sexual content would just change the file names to defeat the filter. If you don't want your kids watching porn, give them something better to do. It's not up to the govrnment to keep you from being bad parents. In light of recent events, maybe the censors should concentrate on limiting voilence content rather than sexual content.

First it is protected speech in a sense.
Second, the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness comes to mind as well.
If you don't want to watch porno, then turn it off or don't cruise sights like xtube. Just because one person feels a thing is wrong (and I believe this to be religiously motivated and I like the separation of church and state very much thank you) does not give him or her the right to force their ethical beliefs on me through the law.

Is he unaware of the fact that every PC has a Parental Controls option? I should know, I was stuck with one so strict I couldn't even use Google when I was eleven.
The point is, Parental Controls will block anything that isn't one hundred percent innocent if you set the right strength. Even the least strict setting blocks pornography. They didn't even allow me to use a Civil War research website due to "Violence and weaponry." Lastly, lest you have a virus or only one shared user account on your PC and someone in your household that browses pornography often (accidentally clicking on history items), it is highly unlikely children will see anything that you would not be comfortable with. You have to search out that stuff, it doesn't just pop up for no reason other than those listed above.
