Compared to your parents, do you have more friends of different racial, religious, or ethnic backgrounds?

I grew up in a Jewish community. My classmates were predominantly Jewish, all of my parent's friends were Jewish. We were white, middle class, as were all of my friends. Probably, had I stayed in that neighborhood, I would not have branched out very much. However, I intentionally wanted to live in neighborhoods where there were more diverse groups of people. I now have friends who are black, white, asian, and while most of those who I know are American, my good friend is from Switzerland and another from England. I have very close friends involved in Judaism, Buddhism, Scientology, many who are Christian, and a few close friends who are Atheists.

yes, some, my dad was very strict..i tend to give my children the opportunity to make their own choices, i seem to give them more freedom than what i had/wanted when i was growing up.

Yes, but thats also because we migrated to a different country and a 16 year old is more likely to branch out than the 50+ year olds.

Before moving I went to a Catholic school and I hated it because all I got were one sided arguements, we never got to see the other side. Now I'm more open to a lot of thiings and have friends that are Atheist, Agnostic, Christian, Buddhist, Asian, Caucasian etc...

My parents were WASPs and the only people they knew were just like them. The town I was raised in had no Black people. The only Mexicans I ever saw back then were in the back of a pickup truck driving through town. There was one farmer that married a Filipeno lady. I met my first Jew when I went to work. I had NO experience with anybody different in any way until I went to work. I made friends with everybody and anybody and have always been interested in other cultures, religions, and races.

Not really my parents friends are pretty diverse themselves but I might be a little more diverse because my friends include a satanist, pagans, atheists, and a few Christians one being Mormon.

Yes my parents were the typical white is right garbage. I met a wonderful young woman in Junior College and we fell for one another. She is Hispanic. Needless to say they were not happy nor were her relatives. Kind of like a weird West side story. Didn't matter I was living on my own, supporting myself and did not need permission from anyone. I waited until she graduated from nursing school and we got married. (We paid for the wedding, reception) and had a wonderful time. That was 42 years ago. Nobody says anything now, and I am glad that the color of skin is not a issue, with the exception of a few brain dead people still stuck in 1950.

I do have friends that have a different race than myself, but that's it. There's no religion, all of my friends and I both have a strong relationship with God.

Yes I do but only because of how I was brought up. I was raised in an upper middle class suburb, 99% white and mostly Catholic or Protestant. My parents were surprisingly liberal though and their lack of diverse friends had more to do with geography. As adults I came out, one brother married a Jewish woman, and the oldest lived with a Asian woman for many years before marrying. Two of us are atheists, one has stayed in the Catholic faith, and one believes in God but doesn't go to church. All of us have friends of different races and religions. When my father was still alive my brothers and I would always bring friends to my parents house for various holidays and parties. They were excellent hosts, like many people of that generation, and this odd assortment of friends and family always had a great time.

A bit more; my family has never had any issue with race and bringing people into our family. The older generation in my family has always had a diverse group of friends including I. My mom, aunt Francis, uncle Sam and Grandmother are Jehovah Witnesses, grandfather and most on his side of the family baptists, I'm agnostic, my cousin Chris an atheist, my brother is up in the air about religion.

My aunt Anette married a Jewish Italian, which is my uncle Bob; my aunt Eva married my uncle Drew who is White, and so on. My brother, cousin Chris and older sister are gay; my uncle Scott is gay who is the brother of my uncle Drew and so on....it's a mix bag and so are my friends.

I went to high school in a magnet school so we had a good mix of different races. I am happy to have went there. Two of my best friends are black. The university I go to now is also diverse and not just racially. I know you only asked about racial, religious, and ethnic but I have met and became friends with a lot of adults over the age of 35 whom are either finally living out their dream to go to college or just coming out of the military and starting a new life. I am grateful to have met people of different backgrounds. It is always fascinating to me to get different perspectives from different walks of life.

Probably the same. They were in professional circles-- education, medicine and libraries. They were into ethnic foods, foreign music and diverse crowds several
decades before we were all told to value this stuff. :O)

Not that my parents didn't have more diverse friends, but it's possible that I do. I mean, I think that the world is constantly become more diverse and more tolerant of diversity. And I'm friends with everyone regards of any ethnicity, religion, etc. So sure (:

Yep. I think most of my Dad's friends are white, Australian-born Catholics. They all went to Catholic school anyway, and their kids were baptised.
Two of my friends are Catholic. The rest are either Anglican or Atheist. Only one wasn't born in Australia though.

Yes I do. Cultures and races have melded considerably since 1930-1940.
