Cindy Crawford Says Her 10-Year-Old Daughter Kaia Is Too Young to Model: Agree or Disagree?

Last month, we told you that Cindy Crawford's daughter Kaia, who's 10 years old, was making her modeling debut -- for Versace's new children's line, no less. But now, the '90s supermodel says she doesn't want her daughter to start modeling... yet.

"At this point, she’s too young to pursue a career," Crawford tells The Daily. "There aren’t even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl. But if she’s 17 and wants to try it…of course, what can I say? She’s really into singing and acting. She kind of jokingly said -- I’m not even sure if it was jokingly -- 'I might model first because you don’t have to know how to do anything, but then I want to be a baby nurse.'"

And despite the fact she, well, already modeled, Crawford says Kaia doesn’t have a portfolio or an agent ... and mom was on set during the Versace shoot. "It was sweet," she tells The Daily. "She knew I was there looking out for her. She’s done little modeling things with me, but it was always with me, and this was just her. And I really wanted her to have that experience.
"

Donatella Versace raved about Kaia in a press release. "Like her mother, Kaia has a very special gift. The camera really, really loves her." Do you think mom should cut the apron strings and let Kaia start modeling right now? After all, Marc Jacobs is allowing it.

Children these days need to have childhoods. I guess shes one of the few celeb moms to realize "Toddlers an Tiaras" is wrong. Granted her kid is 10, she IS too young. Good job Cindy!

I dont care so much about the age , but the Mother says NO , and that is what matters, you all get it ? Mom says NO , it does not matter if the kid is Shirley Temple age , 10 years , 15 years or 17 years.

Cindy knows the real world of modeling industry, this why she knows that better to get into this dirty (sexualisation, etc.), sick (weight limits, eating disorders, etc.) industry not earlier than 17.

To me, it is just too young to be exposed to that kind of work. Give her a few years and maybe she will have an idea of what she wants to do.

If Mom says no...then it's NO....let Kaia live her childhood...God knows it will be soon enough when you won't hold her back from doing anything she wants to....I'm with Cindy in her decision.

Marc Jacobs isn't the parent. There's no reason to drag him into this. If Cindy says Kaia is too young, she's too young.

I totally agree with Cindy Crawford, her daughter is really pretty and could be a great model but I think she is way to young to start deciding on becoming one. Seventeen seems like a good age for her to decide if becoming a model is something she would want to pursue.

As long as she isn't being ruthlessly exploited and forced to wear very revealing clothes, getting a couple of pictures taken here and there isn't going to harm anyone. Her mother should be on set with her at all times though.

In the case of Kaia Crawford. Baring the Crawford name in the modeling world may garner way too much attention for someone who's ten. And the kid would be working everyday. If a 10 year old wants to model here and there, cool as long as it doesn't effect their education. 10 is too young to have a public career.

Maybe Cindy Crawfod thinks her 10-year old shouldn't model, but others can. Just not too sexy. We need to preserve their innocence. But, without child models, how do we sell child clothing and products?

Maybe Mrs. Crawford meant too early to model like Cindy Crawford?

It depends on what she models. Kids fashions would be much better than putting her in older clothes. She probably pulled her out to end a contract that was trying to get her to wear more mature clothes. It may explain why she changed her mind.

Children should need a normal childhood. Being in the public eye all the time isn't healthy for anyone, especially children!
