Cindy Crawford Says Her 10-Year-Old Daughter Kaia Is Too Young to Model: Agree or Disagree?

Last month, we told you that Cindy Crawford's daughter Kaia, who's 10 years old, was making her modeling debut -- for Versace's new children's line, no less. But now, the '90s supermodel says she doesn't want her daughter to start modeling... yet.

"At this point, she’s too young to pursue a career," Crawford tells The Daily. "There aren’t even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl. But if she’s 17 and wants to try it…of course, what can I say? She’s really into singing and acting. She kind of jokingly said -- I’m not even sure if it was jokingly -- 'I might model first because you don’t have to know how to do anything, but then I want to be a baby nurse.'"

And despite the fact she, well, already modeled, Crawford says Kaia doesn’t have a portfolio or an agent ... and mom was on set during the Versace shoot. "It was sweet," she tells The Daily. "She knew I was there looking out for her. She’s done little modeling things with me, but it was always with me, and this was just her. And I really wanted her to have that experience.
"

Donatella Versace raved about Kaia in a press release. "Like her mother, Kaia has a very special gift. The camera really, really loves her." Do you think mom should cut the apron strings and let Kaia start modeling right now? After all, Marc Jacobs is allowing it.

Children these days need to have childhoods. I guess shes one of the few celeb moms to realize "Toddlers an Tiaras" is wrong. Granted her kid is 10, she IS too young. Good job Cindy!

If she knew this why did she let her daughter... What's the word? Model? When she turns 18, if she wants to she can go ahead, but she's a baby.right now.

I think it's good she doesn't want her daughter in the spotlight until she's mature another to handle it.

She is Mama and it's her call. She has first hand knowledge of what it's like for a little girl so she would know.
I would never in a million years encourage my child to model or act...it all based on LOOKS. You never know what might happen ...look at that lovely gal that walked into a planes propeller....let alone looks fade. Better to focus on education and your soul then depending on looks which are fickle and superfishal(?) at best.

If her mother doesnt think it is right for her just yet, i think they should just leave it. Marc Jacobs still IS a cooperation that's main goal is more money, so their opinion really shouldnt even count.

She's 10 in this photo, but looks more like 15 - those clothes are too "sexy" for a girl her age (skirt is too short). When she's older, fine, but not now. If she wanted to model for Land's End, that might be ok at this point. But this type of stuff? She's too young.

If anybody would know what happens in that crazy world, It's Cindy. She's a smart woman and seems to make sure that her kids have a centered and balanced life. Really, it's no different than rock stars like Steven Tyler saying that he'd never let his daughter date a rock star---they know info that would make most our heads spin; more than what movies and imagination tell us anyways.

She's modelling a children's line... doesn't it make sense to have children be the models for a children's line of clothing?

She looks so much older than 10 there though. She's certainly a beautiful little girl, but she is speaking to a much older crowd with that picture.

Look at her face, that is not the face of a teenager. Too much baby fat. That's the give-away. Well, and the lack of breasts.

Toddlers in Tiaras is a whole other level of hell for these kids. I wouldn't have my kids modeling, but I imagine there is a way to do it that respects the kids. Unfortunately, too many parents don't seem to be able to respect themselves in the process, let alone their kids.

I don't see the age of 10 as too young to model. But I do respect parents who not only have their kids' best interests at heart, but they also work at making those best interests come to fruition. So if her mom says she's too young, I'm right there in spirit saying, "Good call."
