Cindy Crawford Says Her 10-Year-Old Daughter Kaia Is Too Young to Model: Agree or Disagree?

Last month, we told you that Cindy Crawford's daughter Kaia, who's 10 years old, was making her modeling debut -- for Versace's new children's line, no less. But now, the '90s supermodel says she doesn't want her daughter to start modeling... yet.

"At this point, she’s too young to pursue a career," Crawford tells The Daily. "There aren’t even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl. But if she’s 17 and wants to try it…of course, what can I say? She’s really into singing and acting. She kind of jokingly said -- I’m not even sure if it was jokingly -- 'I might model first because you don’t have to know how to do anything, but then I want to be a baby nurse.'"

And despite the fact she, well, already modeled, Crawford says Kaia doesn’t have a portfolio or an agent ... and mom was on set during the Versace shoot. "It was sweet," she tells The Daily. "She knew I was there looking out for her. She’s done little modeling things with me, but it was always with me, and this was just her. And I really wanted her to have that experience.
"

Donatella Versace raved about Kaia in a press release. "Like her mother, Kaia has a very special gift. The camera really, really loves her." Do you think mom should cut the apron strings and let Kaia start modeling right now? After all, Marc Jacobs is allowing it.

Children these days need to have childhoods. I guess shes one of the few celeb moms to realize "Toddlers an Tiaras" is wrong. Granted her kid is 10, she IS too young. Good job Cindy!

    I agree.
But if Kaia grows taller and keeps looking leaner at 16 she could really be just like her mother (or almost, who can beat Cindy Crawford?)

A parent who is actually using common sense!!! Yes, she is too young. There are too many perverts and pedophiles out there who would be drooling over her pictures, and that's what scares me more than anything.

Parents decision and probably a good one. If she didn't have money already she might feel differently about it but who are we to question it?

She is the mother so it is ultimately her decision. From what I understand, the modeling world can be pretty intense and force kids to grow up more quickly. I know I don't want that for my daughter.

There's too much crap out there and 10 is way too young, I see crap like Toddlers and Tiaras and it makes me sick and while her daughter is ten it seems to me that children are getting more and more provocative at younger ages and that is enough to make a person wretch...
Glad she's keeping an eye on things and doing a great job.

Cindy knows how hard a job it is to be a model. If her daughter still wants to model when she is older then fine, but she should be allowed to be a kid at this age

I mean in a way its creepy. But if she was like advertising for kids close it would be okay but modeling in general, shows ALOT of skin and thats just gross on a 10 year old girl.

Cindy knows about the dirty old men that sniff around models offering them attention and drugs. She is way too young. I did think modelling kids clothes was ok, but that skirt is way too short, particularly for a childrens line of clothes.

I agree with mom, in an industry that wreaks havok on a woman's self esteem, imagine being a child and growing up constantly being judged on how you look. It isn't healthy.

too young to be involved as a full-time gig for sure. emmm....maybe ok to do a photo ad a couple times a year for cereals or toys or something but i'd still push for a normal life until she was 18

her mom has every right to decide what her underage daughter can and cannot do. if she said her daughter was old enough, i'd also agree. it's her kid, not mine.

There are a great many child models, just because her mother is famous is no reason to deprive her of the oppotunity...

Nobody is depriving her of the opportunity except her mother. I don't think there could be a better person to decide what is in the child's best interests. I don't think the decision has anything to do with who the mother is... the only p;lace that comes into it is we wouldn't be hearing about it if mom was not famous

I would be very leery about allowing my 10 yr old daughter to enter a profession that puts so much emphasis on looks at such a young age. Many girls and young women are already having issues with self image and weight.

The modeling career is a hard business, fille with pressures of being beautiful and thin. Most models develop eating disorders, and do whatever it takes to stay in the business. Let her be a kid, not a mule.

Looks like a Brook Sheilds sequel. The pose, makeup, and the outfit are not appropriate for a ten-year-old.
