Tai Chi is originally known as the form of self-defense as the ancient Chinese art promotes serenity through gentle movements to calm the body down.

This ancient Chinese practice is believed to offer all the health benefits of silent meditation while giving you something to do with your hands and feet. Tai chi often requires standing on one foot so it requires a form of balance. If you are looking for a peaceful type of workout for your body physically and mentally, then Tai Chi can give you the results you need.

I wouldn't question other people for finding relaxation in it. The practice of martial arts did great things for my focus and concentration.

I've done a fair bit of tai chi and learning it is not peaceful at all.
it's a difficult balance of physical strength (try holding a single posture for an hour sometime), patience and mental control as all the thoughts and emotions you thought you had under control come rushing to the surface.

    it can be extremely therapeutic,
so long as you are not just trying to heal pain but are also willing to face the pain of healing.

o yikes that sounds pretty difficult and a bit annoying too. lol There is no way I can be balanced on or stay at one posture for more than 5 minutes. haha I guess this is not meant for hyper-active people.

I think any form of contemplation has a calming, peaceful effect. With the addition of the body being trained, exercised,... yeah, I'd say this is excellent.

ive tried it... it was very relaxing and cleared the mind of stress. i dont really see it as a form of exercise tho, more like active meditation.
