Chick-Fil-A Fast
Food Chain Donated Nearly $2 Million To Family Values Groups
. Want a side order
of solid Christian American values with your chicken sandwich? Chik-Fil-A might
be able to help you with that. According to
EqualityMatters.org, the fast food company donated nearly $2 million in 2009 to
groups that have laudible family values. IRS 990 forms
show that WinShape, the restaurant chain's charitable foundation which was
founded by Chick-Fil-A's chairman S. Truett Cathy in 1994, gave to the
following groups in 2009:

Marriage &
Family Legacy Fund: $994,199

Fellowship Of
Christian Athletes: $480,000

National
Christian Foundation: $240,000

Focus On The
Family: $12,500

Eagle Forum:
$5,000

Exodus
International: $1,000

Family Research
Council: $1,000

An earlier
investigation by Equality Matters found that Chick-Fil-A, which was recently
voted the third most beloved restaurant chain in the United States, donated
more than $1 million to family values groups between 2003 and 2008. The IRS
forms from 2009 are the most recent available as public records. In January
Chick-Fil-A president Dan Cathy defended the chain saying, "We're not
anti-anybody... Our mission is to create raving fans." Cathy also responded
to gay activists' claims after the company provided lunch at a
marriage-training event sponsored by Pennsylvania Family Institute. Cathy asserted,
"While my family and I believe in the Biblical definition of marriage, we
love and respect anyone who disagrees." In recent months
students attending at least six universities, including University of North
Texas, Mississippi State University, and the University of New Orleans, have
launched petitions asking their schools not to support family value businesses
like Chick-Fil-A. LGBT activists
have also staged protests at a number of the chain's locations throughout the
country, including Chicago and Hollywood.

I for one applaud the stance of this franchise on supporting
family values, that which has aided in making this country great. What do you
think?

Whether or not some atheists believe the lack of gods is a certainty it does not change the meaning of the word. YOU have decided in your infinite wisdom to redefine a word to fit your viewpoint. That is also why your statements about "objective observation" are moot. You are in the thick religious fervor and anything BUT objective. This is much simpler than you are pretending OR you may be as thick as you believe those who disagree with you are.

The fact that some atheists are allowed to speak out about their lack of faith now that religion in the western world has been tamed does not mean they have formed or are forming a religion. You are painting all nonbelievers as exactly the same.

If you responded to my question, I am too dense to have recognized it as such. If you would be so kind as to restate it. I would be appreciative.

You remember what Dan Savage did to those high school students? The atheist wasn't content to live and let live. And God help me if I come across him in a dark alley. I hate bullies and I hate hypocrites, and he is both. I'd beat his ass into non-existence.

Savage is no different than Ann Coulter or Micheal Savage of far right politics. He is no less despicable than are they. I have no use for his brand of activism even if we share views on some subjects. I would not physically attack them, but I also would not care to meet any of them.

You should accept Jesus and get some of that hate out of your heart. Thou shalt not murder. Do unto others and all that?

Ah yes, once again the atheist lecturing the Christian on how to be a Christian, just like a guy who just watched "The Blind Side" and now thinks he could coach in the NFL.

I was not always agnostic, I was raised Southern Baptist. The words and actions of Jesus (real or not) are a great basis for how to treat people. The golden rule, though not original to Jesus, is the best possible way to live with one another.

It is not actually as difficult as the NFL, yet it is odd to find how many Christians do not know what is in the Bible. It is also strange to hear Christians talk of killing people who speak against Christianity. Is your faith so easily shattered that a man deserves to die for the offense of being a dick?

THAT is why atheists and agnostics have begun to surface and argue against religious control of society. That is why laws based on religious morality are twisted and oppressive to those of other beliefs. YOU are the reason people fear Christians.
  • Paul Daring ... 2012/07/04 02:49:42

Ah, yes. The old "I was raised ___". Second only to "I went to Catholic school."
I know the Bible pretty well, and it is not that he simply spoke out against Christianity, but that he spoke of it viciously, to hypocritically BULLY some young kids, as though to finally be cool in high school. The Bible makes it clear what people who cause this type of damage deserve, so bite me with your little teaspoon of what you think you know about the Bible.
What are the laws based on religious morality? I hear this all the time, but you guys suck at life and have made Christianity your bogeyman for failing to assuage your insecurities regarding your fear of death. Why are you trying to blame me now for why people "fear Christians", whatever that means? I've heard of going to extremes, but you have taken the cake with that inane comment. I take pride that I stand up against the bully who is so much worse than your average bully, because he ACTIVELY PREACHES against bullying. If he were a Christian, you'd be calling him a hypocrite, and now you are not, so I guess that makes YOU a hypocrite too. It's people like you that make it hard to take atheists and agnostics at face value. Many, if not most of you have anger and control issues. You claim to be principled, but you are not. You are just as blinded by your own beliefs as the people you criticize, just adding to the evidence that you are no different from other religions.

I'm an individual, not a religionist. Being atheist is not something like being a member of a club with a leader you follow. For me gods and myths are just human inventions and therefore very powerful and real as driving concepts, but they still are an imagination of the human mind. I encourage everybody to live the life you want with the constrained of letting others live their life as they want. I'm not gonna force my personal views upon you. .

    Peace!

Nobody ever knows for sure if we're living in a dream of somebody else and our whole lives are just imagined by some other creature or entity. I follow Ockhams razor and I'm open to hear better theories to approach this subject. With Ockhams razor logic I prefer more down to earth ideas, but you're welcome to fantasize everything you want I'm not stopping you.

For a follower of "Ockhams razor" you should learn how to spell it (Occam's, fwiw). Secondly, it would not apply to such grandiose concepts, as your ability to determine what is likely is as inept as an ant farm-enclosed ant's ability to determine what is "likely". Occam's razor is nothing more than pseudo-intellectual fodder for statistical probabilities that appeals to people who lack perspective. But hey, if thinking your IQ is twice what it is and posting funny pictures about fantasy helps you feel smart and funny, then you fit right in with many others in your religion.

I love Chick-Fil-A for all they do AND their good business ethics. I am especially happy for them that they close on Sundays to give their employees a day to worship God.

The one that I go to is run by a member of my church and they often have evenings set aside for church groups and such. I would love to see more businesses put their faith in front like they do.

Those that dislike them can go suck one.....they probably do anyway.

Fully agree. I wish there were more like this as well.

Our local Chick-Fil-A donates cups and such to local churches all the time as well as catering for fund raisers, etc. They're one of the more highly thought of businesses in the area.
