We love purses just as much as the next gal, and who doesn't love finding a gorgeous seashell on the beach? But combining the two apparently costs $48,000. Why? Because it's from Chanel, of course!

The Chanel Shell Minaudieres clutch is a giant molded seashell that was featured on the Chanel Spring 2012 runway, Purseblog.com reports. Now, you don't expect a Chanel purse to be cheap, but $48,000 for a totally impractical, bizarre-looking purse seems excessive -- even for the one percent.

But it might make you feel better to hear that the purse is covered in real freshwater pearls, which helps explain the expense. A little steep for your budget? This plain pearlescent resin version goes for a relatively cheap $33,000. Are you saving your pennies yet?

how about doing some good ..
there's plenty of Disabled Veterans in the USA ..
who are also HOMELESS and in need

Love a good arm candy but this is pushing the envelope. It is not even pretty but this purse is marketed for the collectors of Chanel purses. If someone has money to burn, go for it. As for the rest of us, we are thinking of the Wounded Warriors, the USO, the Disabled Veterans and other veterans organizations and the homeless.

Actually it depends upon your income. To some that is merely a drop in the bucket. To others it's an entire year's salary.

i cant afford it of course, but i am sure and in fact i know people who do a lot of charity and maintain a very lavish lifestyle at the same time, though they are hard to find.

i mean if we advice very rich not to waste money on things that ensure their presence in the circle, we gotta be kidding ourselves.

I'm torn.....If they sold a sufficient quantity to pay for the design and production and still make a contribution to the business, then I guess the answer is...... worth it. It is afterall the concept of supply and demand that brings us for example the devices/hardware we are using to engage with one another right now.

However, the married man in me naturally defaults to waste, on the subject of handbags
