  it is a good idea to have the emergency buttons, but when i was little i was given 50 cents to keep in my schoolbag to use a phone box if i needed. or ask one of the many other people who had a mobile. but this is just what i think, anyway... :)

  Little kids don't need cellphones! Unless it's that phone they were advertising a few years back with only two buttons I think. Home and 911. But do little kids need TOW?!

  i think these phones they have, have no extra features, just a phone, and some with just a couple of buttons only, like for young children, or challenged people, or "the young at heart" crowd.

  or the one in the picture that has only 3 buttons on it.... for calling home, emergency, etc. (check out the picture). Its a great idea i think, of course, some one will think of a down side to it!

  Politicians . . . EXTREMELY RICH POLITICIANS . . . Won't tell the TRUTH about Radiowaves, relative to Brain Tumors . . . It is not wise to introduce dangerous Cancer-causing Radiowaves to children . . . By the time that they reach 35 years old, they will no doubt become victim to Fried-Brain-Syndrome . . .   I lost my Brother-in-law and my Daughter to Brain Tumors . . . They were both extremely heavy users of Cell Phones . . . I can remember when there were drop-areas of Cell Phone use in the San Francisco Bay Area. There aren't any now, though. I do NOT carry a Cell Phone . . . Even if my Company wants to give me one to carry for FREE; I won't do it. Cell Phones and Electronic Mobil Game Stations are so powerful now . . . But there is just too much money in them (Similar to Cigarettes back in the 40s and 50s) that no one will ever admit the TRUTH about the Dangers of Cell Phone use. Are they going to become so powerful that one can talk to someone or share an electronic game with someone from a Submarine in the bottom depths of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Hawaii, with someone buried inside a cave, dug into the middle of the Himalayas, near the Tibetan Plateau, or some such? What next? . . . Satellite Acupunctrure!??

  I'm 64 and I just got a cell phone which i have used one time in two months. What in hell do kids need cell phones for ?

  As a mother and a security officer, I think it is a very good idea. I would not go overboard though. My kid had a cell phone since she was in elementary school, and we programmed all the ICE (In Case of Emergency) phone numbers and information into it. She had to call for emergency once and it was a good thing that she had a cellphone handy.

  I find the idea of children having free use of the telephone at all a little disconcerting because as a child we had to ask permission to use the phone until we got to be about 10.
  
  I can see how a phone like the one on the right could be a good thing.
