Can you stay true to yourself if you also want acceptance by others?

I've battled with this myself - and seen others in the same internal fight. You want to be true to your self - and yet, you want acceptance by others. I've seen this internal fight going on when people are battling with their sexuality and with religious issues, also. A childhood friend of mine recently came out. I'm straight. He thought he'd lose my friendship - which wasn't the case. I've seen people who were raised one way - Jewish, Christian, who gravitated down a different path - Buddhism, Scientology, and recently a relative who announced to her religious Jewish parents that she was an Agnostic. That went over like a lead balloon! All of her friends are Jewish, and a few have turned their backs.

Yea just don't expect to be accepted by everyone some people are just prejudices pricks and isn't willing to accept others but then those aren't people you'd want to associate with anyways they obviously don't really care about you.

Simple answer, YES. I want acceptance by others, but only if they're willing to accept ME, otherwise, what the point?? If they accept me and still disagree, even better. That's what I ...TRY...to do. Some make it difficult.

Yes, if one is not true to oneself, at some point few accept that false person.

Yes I can. What you see is what you get. If they don't like it, then there's the door. Don't let it hit their butts or fronts on the way out.
Don t let the door hit you
