Can You Judge a Person By Their Shoes?

You!

You're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but shoes are apparently a whole different story. Recent reports show that shoes reveal a lot about the wearer's personality. If you're agressive, ankle boots are your thing. If you're a more agreeable person, practical shoes are your pick. And the list goes on and on. Do you think you can judge a person by what kind of shoes they're wearing?

BLOOMBERG.COM reports:
If you have been reading newspapers or websites, listening to the radio or watching TV over the past few weeks, you have probably heard the news: “You CAN judge a person by his shoes.” Beginning in mid-June, word of a psychology article titled “Shoes as a source of first impressions” began circling the globe.

I think it overgeneralizes everyone. Some people can't afford expensive shoes and elect to spend their hard earned mony elsewhere. Other people are wealthy and just buy shoes for the status. I conserve money on footwear whenever possible. I hate spending more than 50 dollars or so on shoes. So what does that say about me? I'm cheap.

It depends - do you take care of them? My old beat up boots from before I cared about my success don't look nearly as good as the sensible boots I bought because I wanted to be a professional. I paid the same $40 for both. It seems to me how much money you spend isn't what's important. It's how you use them to reflect yourself. If you walk into an interview with modest closed-toes shoes, I'd interview you before I interview someone wearing spiked expensive platform heels. You're more likely to be there based on your skills and abilities.

Of course not. It's a wrong way to judge people. Imagive being without shoes in your house and a guest comes. What should he think? That you're poor?

    yes you can,
    but do i? no.
judging someone just because the way they look dosnt express their personality or what theyre going through. you never judge anyone because what they wear. some of my friends dont wear the best clothes or maybe the best shoes do i love them? yes i do theyre personality is great! and theyre amazing ppl! sooo yes i judge ppl by there shoes but i also bring them in my life and put some new clothes on their back and new shoes on their feet its just the way i am(:

Yes, to some degree. No, you're not going to be able to produce a personality report, but shoes can give you a few hints about a person.

To an extent. The 5 pairs of footwear I have are as follows:
-Three year old torn to hell Chucks
-Two year old work shoes starting to go
-Two year old decent shape red plaid high tops
-6 inch tall thick soled Mary Janes for my goth fancy dress up time
-3 inch tall Demonia platform boots for all my gothy needs

Someone take a crack at me. Just for fun. It's 1:30am here, most I'll do is laugh incoherently. :3

Artistic, unique, easy-going (but you also enjoy dressing up and getting into fantasy and the like)... I'd say you spend a lot of your off-time around town, have a circle of casual friends.
I also imagine you are financially sensible and focused, with interests in academia or similar.

Nope. That's shallow. I prefer flats and sneakers because it's comfortable.

Someone that judges me by my shoes isn't someone I care to know.

I say no, but I've seen fashionistas who fell victims to their believes. They believe the shoes someone wear can tell their "chicness" that means they are cool or not. In a city like NY, in certain social stratum, if you do not wear the right labels in clothing, shoes and handbags, you would be dismissed as "uncool" . IMHO, one should feel free to wear what feels comfortable but still looks fastidious and elegant. Dirty, unkempt shoes show the same carelessness one has not only for oneself but also for others.

I wouldnt really think so not with any degree of accuracy...I read some of the list, but what if a person prefers to wear no shoes? Most people would associate that with low intelligence, low class "back woods" at least where I come from but that doesnt mean its true...

What if a person owns and wears more than one type of footwear? Does that mean they have multiple personality disorder?

Yes you can have the ability to "see" some hints of their personality, but it sure doesn't look right if you're caught staring at someone's feet for a certain amount of time. XD It's not terrible to speculate, but to actually judge, find something better to do. XD
