learned to drive with a stick shift, my experience with automatic is shorter than my time behind a standard transmission...got to admit that eating and driving is easier with an automatic....LOL

that when I learned to drive ..
it was an extra cost ..
for the 'luxury' ..
of AUTOMATIC Transmission ..

(and of course .. that wasn't affordable back then!)

I wanted to show a beginner how to park backward. She had an automatic. On the place where I usually press the clutch for slowing down I pressed instinctively the existing pedal as usual fast

and bang

stopped hard. There was no clutch, its the brake.... f-word teacher me ...

Yes 1st car at 16, was a 75 camaro, with a munci rock crusher(4 speed) Dad took me to Johnson TN bought me the car, gave me the keys and said see you when you get home. He left. Had 3 Joints, and no clue. when I got home at 3 am I could drive a stick Now for my toy, I have a 2001 Bullitt. Only made it in a 5 speed. But what fun would a Mustang be as an automatic

My Uncle taught me to drive in a Jeep (1963) in the mountains of Wyoming. He thought it was important to know how to drive a stick.

..... those old days clutches were just brutal, weren't they !

Soft as a sponge nowadays .... like night + day difference.

Yeah they were. The owner of the company at that time had his shop people put in an "easy clutch" - helped some. Remember coming thru Chicago with the old type taking about 2 1/2 hours from one end to the other - just pure torture. Last outfit had Volvo's with "super 10's" wasn't quite as bad.

..... I love the Super 10's + 18's ... never cared for the straight 10

My fave is the 9 w/lo-hole and a deep-reduction unit ..... moved a lot of over-size with them.

Ever notice how Volvo's shifters are about as strong as a limp noodle .... must use recycled tuna cans for the steel < s >
