If more than 3 people had you SS#, and you felt they were using it, but had no proof. Would you try to change it, before something happens...A gut feeling...

Depends. Are these three people working and paying taxes into my eventual retirement benefit? Knock yourselves out.

I've been told that the Secret Service and the Federal Witness Protection Program change Social Security IDs. President's and other VIPs have it done routinely.

To apply for a different number Complete an Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5); and Take this and the following to the Social Security local office with documents proving: U.S. citizenship (or immigration status and work eligibility); Identity; and Evidence to support your need for a new number All documents must be either originals or copies certified by the issuing agency. Social Security cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents.
You're old SS# will still exist though.
