I don't pay a lot of attention, I do get irked when someone from non English speaking country is criticized for their spelling,

When I'm on my MAC it instantly tells me when I misspell. When I'm on my PC laptop, it doesn't and then I'm not paying attention.
As long as I can understand them, I'm OK. Unless they are calling me ignorant, then maybe I might say something.

I'm Dutch, so English is a second language to me!
I know I make mistakes in spelling and grammer!

What bothers me is, when SH's who's first and only language is English, start to make stupid remarks on my use of the English language.

I often answer them that when they know enough Dutch, to answer me in Dutch, they can come back and discuss.
If they want to do that in German, it is also possible.

(My French however has become rusty, due to lack of use.)

Nous autres Américains n’estimons pas la connaissance de langues autant que vous autres Européens, malheureusement. Merci pour votre commentaire, qui est excellent, comme votre anglais !

    He, that is nice!
I still know enough French that I understood what you did write here!

n'estimons is the only word I didn't know, but with the rest I do know I can understand what you mean!

    Merci beaucoup!

hold your mouse over the image to see sister jean's secret message, which explains (i think) why she used this image.

I'm Dutch and I find that US-SH's use nazi-related words and pictures way to easy.

In my opinion it devaluated the suffering, destruction and deaths that system did cause.

I ask Sister Jean, because I didn't expect that she would use pictures like that!

The Nazi period in European history is something very distant to most Americans. I have many friends whose families suffered personally and I take it very seriously.

Sometimes it is merely a typo without proof reading - my computer (a Mac) will substitute words and I look up or read a reply and find some strange word floating there. And do not forget that the human mind does "see" words not written and adjusts spelling errors - an example are those fun 'tests' of partial words that we can read easily.

i've heard this about Apple devices: several friends have iPhones and they tell me that the phone often inserts the word it "thinks" you mean with some amusing results!

It's the dumbing down of our citizens. The schools bend to the PC crowd, or maybe they STARTED the PC crowd, where it might be harmful to make a kid feel badly if someone in the class beat him at spelling; ergo all spellings might be correct so all students could save face. Ditto with mathematics. Ditto with science classes. We don't "educate" students these days. We "brainwash" them - and it's been in progress at least from the 1960's.

Blame it on Spelling being downsized in the schools.
