Can you bake a cake?

My mom taught me well....

My friend and I bake cakes every now and then. He always yells at me when I mix the flour with the sugar, because sugar is considered a "wet ingredient" and should be mixed with the other wet ingredients lol.

Of course i can bake a cake. I am old school. Everyone should know how to bake a cake from a box or from scratch. My Momma taught me when I was a little girl and I took Home economics in school.

it's pretty simple to bake a cake out of a box ,the real test at cake baking is making it from scratch.I did it one time with a carrot cake and want t do it again but a different kind of cake.

Never baked a cake until last year. Our church has an annual cake bake, so I thought I'd give it a try. Made an Angel Food cake from scratch. It came out okay.

I can't bake a cake as nice as the one I can buy ; )

My granny taught me how to cook everything she could cook by the time I was 15. I can do scratch cakes, cookies, brownies, banana pudding, bread pudding, rice pudding, cream pies, fruit pies, no-bake pies...gotta stop, stomach...growling...

The best cakes are the ones from scratch. One of my favorites is a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting.

But I can't decorate a cake.

but decorating them is another matter. I'm an excellent baker, just don't have the patience or inclination to do all the decoration.

I can follow instructions pretty well and I've been told my cakes come out moist so I consider myself lucky lol.

Consider yourself good! Moist cakes can be hard to come by. I use to over bake quite a bit. We all learn as we go.

I buy cakes from my work place.

Don't be discouraged, some of us just weren't cut out for it. I understand because I'm not good at cooking beef.

I bet you do great. It does take time but you already have the most important thing; the desire to learn to be a good cook. Every recipe will be better than the one before.

My grandma was really good at cooking/baking, she taught my dad, I got some of their talent :D But my baking a cake comes from my sister. When I was 7, my sister was 15, and for her Junior Cert. (state exam) Home Ec. practical (cookery) she had to make cake. We got so many cakes :D But she taught me then how to make them, and then I did Home Ec. for three years, and I learned a lot more things, too :D In a mock, myself and a friend were working together, and we got 96% for making a cake (2% gone for not tying up our hair, 2% for a health and safety risk - we put a wire tray on a hob that was turned off...) :D I love baking :D

No, don't be discouraged. It takes practice my friend. It doesn't mean you're a loser, some of us just aren't good at it. I like to bake from scratch, but I had good teachers, my mother and my aunt. Trust me, I messed up a lot along the way.

Just follow recipes exactly with baking and usually it'll work out.
