Doctors recommend a number of different methods for managing type 2 diabetes: blood sugar monitoring, exercise, diet. But how effective are fruits and vegetables in controlling the condition? Could broccoli be a better wonder drug than common diabetes medications?

My brother is type 1(since he was 6, now 42) and my grandmother was type 2 then went insulin dependent when she refused to change her diet. The thing is, you have to find the method that works for you. You usually need to change your diet. Sometimes it's genetic and unavoidable.

The best remedy for Type II diabetes is weight loss. Eating a balanced diet including fruits and veggies will help to achieve that and maintain it. Exercise is also very important. We are seeing almost an epidemic of Type Ii diabetes in America among our youth because they don't get out and play, they are stuck inside on their Xbox 360 or watching TV or whatever.

Absolutely! Adult Onset Diabetes is avoidable with exercise and a proper diet. Why can't it be controlled in the same way? Perhaps cured? I think so.

Some fruits are very sweet and can cause blood sugar to spike. Ex: grapes, oranges. Also some vegetables are too starchy and can cause blood sugar to spike.Ex: corn, peas, butterbeans, white potatoes. Overall, most vegetables and fruits along with exercise can controll blood sugar.

No doubt, and there is plenty of evidence that a more healthy diest with more fiber & complex surgera along with modest weight loss & excercise can be very effective!

My husband has been controlling his very well with the proper diet. What E-DLH said below is absolutely correct. Fibre is important and stay away from simplex carbs.

Minerals are important, too. Type 2 diabetes can be caused by a lack of chromium, vanadium, zinc and magnesium in the diet.

It runs in my family. Mom and sis have probs, even though we are very active, and not over weight . We monitor.

I have always been a raw veggie, and fruit nut....so it is easy.

My "sweet" of choice is strawberries w/splenda....I can eat a ton and BS stays around 90.

Needless to say I have planted several long rows!

Hypoglycemic versus Hyperglycemic (these are real words)...one needs candy to effect a rush back to real time.
The other requires some 'sweet' fruit to gain an equal balance.

Unfortunately I don't know which...easily discovered online. Highlight, copy and paste.
    Sorry, best I can do...
