It seems as if whenever a Protestant Christian runs across a Catholic Christian they want to turn their nose up (and vice versa); WHY???

Catholics believe they are the only religion that god recognized and all others are heresy.Protestants believe that the Catholics have been bamboozled by their church into believing all sorts of silly stuff that was not in the New Testament and there is plenty of evidence that that is true. The fun really started when the Pope gave blessing out to anyone who would murder the leaders of the Protestant movements. A special blessing was to be bestowed on anyone who assasinated Elizabeth l. Her sister Mary was a devout Catholic and tried to turn England back to what was in her mind the true religion. When she could not get compliance then Prostestants were burned alive at the stake. A rather common form of punishment used by the Catholic Church of old. So the animosity goes back donkey's years and they are all nuts. The Protestants started to get very nutty and they too wanted to start burning witches etc. The were the equivalent to today's Moral Majority types. That was when they had to run for the lives. And so it goes on with people stupid superstisous nonsense.

A protestant minister once told me that it was because we worship directly to Mary and revere the Pope as God's representative here on earth - and, protestants find both of those things fairly aggravating, if not completely repulsive. My wife and I are 1G Brit/Americans. She's Anglican and I'm Catholic; but neither of us have any dislike for people in either of our churches.

It's historical fact that major wars in the past were caused by religion.

In our contemporary society, in my opinion, it's a division; not a war. Many Catholics were taught that their religion is the One True Church and are instilled with this belief, hence, the superiority leads to intolerance. Most Protestants feel that the Pope is a fallacy, confessing sins to a priest is not necessary, and believe in consubstantiation, and they also despise when a Catholic tells them that the word "Protest" is affiliated with their religion.

To conclude, there is intolerance on both sides. All religions have to adapt to the philosophy that no religion is superior to another.
